Movie Reviews of Ushpizin

Movie Review: A precious, precious movie!
Summary: 5 Stars

I really enjoyed this movie! Although it is in Hebrew, I believe, the subtitles were easy to follow and the story easy to understand. It helps to have some background in spiritual principles and Scripture. Still, it is enough to understand love, desire, and the capacity for being human striving for personal and spiritual growth.

This movie is precious, and will stay with me for a long time, I think. I fell in love with the characters and their spiritual journey. You will, too.

Fiddler on the Roof (2-Disc Collector's Edition)

Movie Review: A Peek into the Chareidi World
Summary: 5 Stars

This wonderful DVD gives a look into the heart and soul of the usually closed world of the ultra-Orthodox Jew. It is a poignant story on many levels, depicting the honest love between an husband and wife, the sometime burden of "ahavas Yisrael" and the struggle of a man to find his path to his G-d. The authenticity of time and place ( the celebration of Succos in Mea Shearim - an ultra-Orthodox section of the Holy City of Jerusalem ) is profound and the characters' portrayals of faithfulness, joy, sorrow, confusion, belief and disbelief are so true and to-the-mark that the viewer soon forgets that these are actors in a film. The entire spectrum of a man's struggle to find his true relationship to G-d is given depth and heart in this excellent film.

Movie Review: Ushpizin
Summary: 5 Stars

I recommend this movie to anyone looking to understand better some of the practices, and traditions of our brothers in the jewish faith. I thought the movie to be tender, very insperational, informative. The only thing I have to tell you is that i did not know it was in hebrew and not in english it took me awhile to get used to reading the subtitles and watching the movie. once i got used to the subtitles i was fine and rather enjoyed the movie tremendously. I also plan on making a point of watching it on a yearly basis during lent. As a person of a different faith i saw alot of beautiful things i can incorporate in my own practices of my faith. I truly recommend this movie especially if you are wishing for a miracle.

Movie Review: Recommended
Summary: 5 Stars

Ushpizin is a love story. It opens a window on a world most of us are unfamiliar with. This movie is about imperfect people who do all they can to live up to the highest ideals of goodness, and what they believe is demanded of them by G-d. There is a golden light that infuses the movie. This movie is also about miracles, large and small. Each miraculous event can be completely explained by rational reasons, and yet they all fall into place, one after the other, to eventually become the most miraculous of all, the birth of a baby.
The movie shows that belief in G-d and a determination to live by His rules can change behavior and redeem lives.
It is a movie that is suitable for all ages.

Movie Review: The beauty of Jerusalem's Nahlaot quarter
Summary: 5 Stars

Other reviewers have touched upon many of the good qualities of this beautiful movie, including the tremendous acting of Shuli Rand, the moving power of a story of faith and forgiveness, the exact depiction of Orthodox life. I however would like to mention the wonderful depiction of Jerusalem's Nahlaot area. The beauty of this part of Jerusalem is a major part of this movie. It helps make for the sanctity of the mood and the scene.
I might say I did not like everything about the movie. The two criminal characters part in it seemed to me exaggerated, and somewhat unbelievable. The ' simplicity' of the people was a bit overdone.
But on the whole this is an inspiring and beautifully done film.
