Movie Reviews of Underworld Evolution [Blu-ray]Movie Review: The Living Dead of Night Summary: 5 StarsUnderworld: Evolution is an excellent sequel movie. The acting is superb. Kate Beckinsale is so much more at home in this role reprisal, especially when compared to her part in Van Helsing. Scott Speedman is also quite convincing in his recurring hybrid Vampire/Werewolf character; it is hard to believe that he was a star on the tender WB show, Felicity, only a few years ago.
The introduction cues the viewer in on the history of the vampires versus werewolves rivalry that would create nihilistic subcultures as was portrayed in the predecessor, Underworld. Included are flashbacks from the previous movie that surfaced significant events that would be intertwined with latter developments so as to help one create a clearer picture of the vampires versus werewolves saga and to remind him/herself that it is not exclusively a series of battles among races but also a war among noble family members.
Like its forerunner, Underworld: Evolution does, at times, seem to go out on a limb with its plots. However, it is a portrayal of one's attempt to wipe out the sins of the past created by family members from ages ago.
Though the focus is on redemption or, at least, partial rectification, there is room left for one to wonder if there is going to be another sequel. In other words, can the possibility of eliminating evils from the past guarantee that the future will be safer? Or will the nature of the beast spread like an epidemic, regardless of its origin?
And last, and perhaps least, for those who are curious, Kate Beckinsale is eye candy on the big screen. Though her on screen presence is a delight, it is mixed in with several scenes of violence in this release. As expected, there is a lot of blood and gore.
All in all, Underworld: Evolution is a great movie but not one recommended for young viewers.
