Movie Review: Prince remains royalty.
Summary: 3 Stars
I've always loved Prince. I love his fearlessness no matter what and inspite of anything, whether it be movies and certainly music. I actually liked this movie when I first saw it as a teen. It had everything a loyal Prince fan wanted. Prince close-ups, Prince changing clothes and of course Prince singing and dancing alittle to "Girls & Boys" ( a great song from the great album "Parade" ). I love that Prince made this film black and white and that its so not and never tries to be Purple Rain ( one of the greatest rock films ever! ). This and so many other reasons is why Prince is still making music and challenging his listeners. Why Prince is still inspiring other artists and imitaters ( you know who you are ). There never has been anyone like Prince and there never will be.Movie Review: well worth it for the music videos!!

lord knows i'm a big fan of prince music but hoo wee this movie (although it looks pretty - beautifully filmed)is BAAAAAD. bad 2 the bone. just as bad as i remember it at the theater back then. it stinks. that said, if you like prince even a little you will love the added 4 videos in the special features: anotherloverholeinyohead (finally!!), kiss, girls & boyz, & mountains. prince's fingerwork at the piano at the movie's intro is also priceless. but that death scene and crazy eye bucking/looking str8 in the camera? umph - prince please don't do that no mo!!! This movie failed for a number of reasons:
1.) Prince totally misjudged his fans and their expectations of him.
2.) While Prince is a genius in the music world, he is not in the movie world. Its one thing to play yourself (Purple Rain) but its another thing when you begin to think you are ready for the "leading male" status and director after only two films.
3.) The script of rich-girl-meets-bad-boy-who-shows-her-a-good-time is so redundant and boring.
4.) Some of the other actors looked embarrassed. Some like the wonderful Kristen Scott Thomas will publicly distance themselves from this movie.
5.) Some of the scenes made me giggle. For example, the scene when Prince meets Kristen (his leading lady) for the first time and the 'look' he gives her from a distance. I also giggled during the night scene when Prince is holding/kissing Kristen passionately in front of a car. Classic!
6.) The confusing relationship of Prince and Jerome characters.
I can't really knock this film totally because I understand what Prince were trying to do. He wanted to expand his fans minds by giving us a taste of old Hollywood glamour. The trouble is, this movie is kinda wacky (even by 80s standards).
Get the movie if you are a Prince fan and save it for the memory. On a better note, the soundtrack is great and is a MUST! I give this movie 2.5 stars.

I never cared much for the soundtrack aside from a few tracks. this Film was wack the Acting,Directing. but the Story Line was cool. in fact if someone knew how to put this together with a stronger Cast this Film would have been interesting.this Film flip flopped Time Periods&it hurt it's cause.I will give Prince Props though for being a Black Film Director back at a time when it was really rare&truth be told in 2004 it ain't that much better on a whole.Movie Review: FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS PURPLE, NO!

Ok..I saw this movie..it was respectively, what I call a time bandit. It robbed me of approximately 2 hours of my life that I cant get back. The most memorable parts of this movie was the popcorn I ate at the movies that day was pretty good,it was buttery..the other good memory, was the Prince death scene, yes..he was killed, and not a moment too soon, I was out of popcorn and my soda was getting flat..I actually laughed at this part, because it was so poorly acted and so animated..when I saw him do is little spasmodic fall to the ground with his little size two high heels thrust up in the air, I was like, EUREKA, its a comedy!..and a bad one, and its OVER!! yesssssss!!!
Do yourself a favor..keep whatever money you were going to spend on this movie and ball it up and throw it down on the street for a hobo...believe me, you'll feel better about doing that than spending any money on this..this movie isnt even worth the rental fee at the video store..I had a copy someone gave me, and I tried to sell it at the flea market for a dollar..a guy did buy it, but only walked over to the garbage can with it after he bought it and threw it in..I guess that was his way of saving the unsuspecting possible viewer..where was he when I first received this movie??
