Movie Reviews of Under the Cherry Moon

Movie Review: Underrated romantic comedy
Summary: 4 Stars

Prince's 1986 romantic comedy "Under the Cherry Moon" finally received the DVD treatment it deserved in the Summer of 2004. When the film was released, it was bombarded with bad reviews but this film is actually decent. Of course the music stands out but it actually succeeds as a comedy. The acting may be full of flaws but it's the 80's, what do you expect? Prince and Jerome Benton , from The Time, are gigolos living it up in South France and they come across a beautiful heiress (Kristin Scott Thomas) who happens to get her trust fund on her 21st birthday. They both woo her for the money but Prince ends up catching feelings for her. With a beautifully filmed movie and an incredible soundtrack, "Under the Cherry Moon" fails to disappoint.

Movie Review: For Prince Fans Only
Summary: 4 Stars

I love this movie, but then I love Prince. If you don't, then you may find this movie silly and perhaps amateurish. It certainly isn't "Purple Rain." But, the b&w photography is beautiful and so are the locations. I believe this is also Kristin Scott Thomas' first movie and she is very good. Francesca Annis is also wonderful. Prince and Jerome Benton are very funny together and have great chemistry. Unfortunately, Prince looks funny running in high heeled boots, too. (Sorry, but that had to be said.) Anyway, there are much worse movies you could watch so give it a try, if only for the music! (Sometimes it Snows in April is such a sadly unrecognized song! But he is singing it as part of the Musicology tour.) Prince 4ever!

Movie Review: Humourous Movie
Summary: 4 Stars

The second movie of Prince's which is obviously different from his first, Purple Rain. Although it received some less-favourable reviews when it was first released, I find it quite hilarious. You'll definitely adore it if you're a general Prince fan, but more serious fans seem to either understand or be more critical. He uses a different approach than he did in Purple Rain (purpose of psychologically getting rid of his more-defyingly-delinquent side). Unfavourable to many, it's in black & white, I personally love it. It shows his homourous side that many people don't get to see.

Movie Review: Quirky?
Summary: 4 Stars

Prince is at his quirky best in this movie. Jerome Benton is a side man for Prince. Overall very entertaining and funny in some spots. Any Prince fan will have this in their collection. DVD also has live concert footage as an added bonus,"NEEDANOTHERLOVER" off the hook. Prince is wearing this cool, yellow suit with a white tie, dancing all over the place. Just buy the DVD for the live concert footage. It is worth it!
