Movie Reviews of Under the Cherry Moon

Movie Review: 25 years later and I STILL LOVE IT!!!
Summary: 4 Stars

I first saw Under The Cherry Moon when it first came out back in 1986 - I was 10 and loved it then simply because it was Prince and quite frankly i was thrilled to be going to the movies with an older, cooler cousin. I've seen the movie several times over the years and I love it as much now as I did then because at the end of the day, I enjoy it for what it is. He wasn't going for an Oscar nomination and some movies are meant to be enjoyed as good clean fun which is EXACTLY what Cherry Moon is. Prince and Jerome Benton had terrific chemistry (Jerome is the splitting image of brother Terry Lewis). I didn't know this was Kristin Scott Thomas' first movie role - who knew! The father was a baddie that you wanted Christopher to beat (how dare he try to keep star crossed lovers apart even if Christopher started out trying to swindler her??!!) and if you were a true Prince fan, how could you not cry when Christopher died????? All in all, I think the reason this movie has such high ratings on Amazon is because it was reviewed by people who embraced the movie in the spirit in which Prince made it back in 1986. It was another opportunity for Prince disciples to worship at the altar of Prince, plain and simple !:)

Movie Review: Prince in Valentino mode!
Summary: 4 Stars

I shouldn't like this movie, but I kind of do. It's a total vanity project for Prince, but it's charming and funny so I enjoy watching it. Prince plays Christopher, a gigolo who plays piano in the French Riviera. He sets his sights on a rich heiress, and then finds himself falling in love. Meanwhile the father does not approve, and wants him hurt or dead. The movie is photographed extremely well by a legendary lensman called Michael Ballhaus. It looks phenomenal! And Kristin Scott Thomas seems to breathe some real life and class to her role as Mary. Jerome Benton is just fun to watch as he goofs on everyone. And Prince is Prince - mysterious and fully decked out in stack heels and full make-up.

The DVD is nice. It includes all the videos, and a trailer. But the real treat is seeing it in widescreen after all these years. Filmed on location in Nice, France ... mmmmm! South of France.

Hits include "Kiss" and "Girls & Boys". Some of Prince's most exotic and rythmic music.

Movie Review: MoonGlow
Summary: 4 Stars

4 realities sake, Under The Cherry Moon's plot is highly impossible. There is no way Mary would have fallen for Christopher Tracy or Tricky for that matter. This is nothing more than a fantasy movie whose plot is ridiculous. It's filmed well and the music of course is awesome. There r some tediously boring parts without Prince and the acting is borderline. The most ridiculous part is when Tricky finds out Christopher has been shot and he starts sobbing, "Not Christopher, No lord NOT Christopher". It's almost laughable. Strangly enough, u feel like ur glad he gets shot at the end. U almost say, "thank goodness". It's just another gigolo dead, who wants 2 root 4 a gigolo? All in all it's a good movie if ur a hardcore Prince fan like I am. It's cool they have 4 music videos 4 tha bonus features. I played all of them and it's nice 2 reminicse 2 old Prince vidz. Prince is tha best and Under Tha Cherry Moon is a cute film 2 watch if u leave ur mind open and free urself from the insanity of living.

Movie Review: Too Gorgeous 4 words
Summary: 4 Stars

1st of all if you are a Prince fan, then it is ofcourse the norm, that you have some favortism directed to the film. That would be me included!!! Does he ever not look good on camera??? I love his hair styles throughout the movie. O.K. now on the movie itself; I find the plot of it beautiful. I wish it did; however, show more erotic love scenes. I love the idea of this movie pertaining to the fact to w/ being a male gigolo, and finding love. THIS IS A PRINCE FILM that does not come on to often...this is simply beautiful B&W so clean looking. (...)! to all the naysayers, because Graffiti Bridge is sexy too! This could be a silent film, and I would still get it just to watch him sashay his cute (...)on screen...everything about him is art. More than half of all people even if they tried could not be such as he: An animated piece of expensive art on screen that you want to just watch...cut it out you haters he is GORGEOUS!!!

Movie Review: Tales of the Jazz Age
Summary: 4 Stars

Filmed in color, but processed in black and white, Prince directs and stars in this neat romantic comedy that captures slapstick comedy, old-school con men and the feel of a time when "Flappers and Philosophers" were all the rage.

Prince is Christopher Tracy who - along with sidekick Tricky (Jerome Benton) - is working the ultimate con on an heiress (Kristin Scott Thomas), who will be able to tap into an incredible $50 million inheritance on her 21st birthday. But a strange thing happens to the scheme; Tracy falls in love with her.

There is a solid understanding of the classic Hollywood storytelling elements, with the era wonderfully captured in the setting designs and actor's wardrobe. It is a throwback that captures Prince as a historian of film and pop culture.
