Movie Reviews of Ultimate Fighting Championship, Vol. 74: RespectMovie Review: "Go Out and Beat the Dog Crap Out of Gabe Gonzaga." Summary: 5 StarsThat's exactly what UFC Heavyweight Champion, Randy Couture had in mind for this fight. And when all the nay-sayers said he'd get smeared by Tim Sylvia in UFC 68, Randy Couture made certain, within 11 seconds, that he was back!! And by the end of that fight, he had the belt once again. But Gabriel Gonzaga had heads turning in his last fight as well. In UFC 70 he fought world-class striker, lethal kicker, Mirko Cro Cop. And going into that fight without much of a name, one kick was all it took near the end of the first round. Fans were stunned, and Randy Couture had his challenger for UFC 74, Gabriel Gonzaga is his name! And Gonzaga was convinced that there would be a new champion at the end of the evening. That's the main event of UFC 74 RESPECT!
The Co-Main Event is interesting. It features 2 contenders, and one of them wants his belt back!! Georges St-Pierre steps into the octagon after losing his title to Matt "The Terror" Serra. His opponent is a man that earned a lot of dislike on the first Ultimate Fighter, Josh Koscheck. And Koscheck is coming off of a big win, the most BORING win you could fathom, but he still won a unanimous decision over Diego Sanchez. And Josh Koscheck has a message for the world, "This is my turn, this is my time, and Georges is just here to get beat." Bold words, but Koscheck has come to fight. Georges simply says, "When I bring my A game, nobody can beat me.
With that said, there are 9 fights to bring RESPECT to life. I will list those 9 fights below.
Clay Guida vs. Marcus Aurelio: Ok, come on! SPLIT DECISION?!!? I suppose this is the best reason in MMA not let the fight go to the judges. But the right man won this fight, and that doesn't always happen.
Ryan Jensen vs. Thales Leites: Jensen has waited a lifetime for this opportunity, and Leites is always a competitor. It ends rather quickly in the first round with a submission.
Frank Mir vs. Antoni Hardonk: Former champion with a great ground game taking on a pretty good striker. When this fight ends in just over a minute and a half, somebody is back and ready to get back into title contention!
Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs. David Heath: Sometimes all you can do is shake your head. Because in the middle of the 2nd round, a fan favorite won his fight and ended his UFC career with one act of idiocy! This UFC might be called "RESPECT," but there are certainly better ways to gain that respect. Even the crowd has some choice words after this display. Great fight, yes. But in the end, what a shame.
Patrick Cote vs. Kendall Grove: I gained a whole new level of respect for the winner of this fight. Great TKO in the 1st round!
Kurt Pelligrino vs. Joe Stevenson: This is the type of scrap you pay to see! Great fight the whole way through, a unanimous decision for the winner, as well as a future title shot!
Roger Huerta vs. Alberto Crane: Newcomer thinks he has a way to completely check-mate the hard-core Huerta. Well, the fight does make it halfway through the 3rd round.
Georges St-Pierre vs. Josh Koscheck: How does this fight work? Simple. Just beat the other guy at his own game. Impressive win the whole way around for the unanimous decision!
Randy Couture vs. Gabriel Gonzaga: All you can say is WOW!! What else can you say? THAT GUY IS MY HERO!!! Yeah, Joe Rogan said it best so long ago, and I still think that it fits in this case.
When all was said and done, respect was indeed won. And a great night of fights the whole way around!
Movie Review: Prepare to learn respect! Summary: 5 StarsThis is a great event that was well worth the money I spent. Every fight on this Dvd was nice to watch, including the Babalu match. I was looking for bloody fights, and I was completely satisfied. The maine event was also nice to watch. Randy Couture is a legend, and this fight proves it. I loved it when Babalu choked his oponent, putting him to sleep. It was good to see. Well, at least he got what he deserved. Highly recommended.
Movie Review: Couture vs Gonzaga! Summary: 5 StarsRandy's last fight in the UFC was awarded fight of the night honors in his title defense against Gonzaga. This match is worth the price of this dvd alone!I thought the whole card was great!
Movie Review: Better Summary: 5 StarsThis is one of the better UFC cards. The entire night is stacked with quality fights from quality fighters. Headlined by the ageless Couture, his exciting fight tops off a wonderful night of MMA. This card has some shocking knockouts and is also the last fight in the UFC for Babalu. If you want to see why, then watch his fight. This card also features the return to form for Frank Mir. The Only fight that I found a bit boring was the Clay Guida match. Other than that, it was excitement all the way through.
Movie Review: "He needs to learn respect" Summary: 5 StarsThis is an event that presented some great match-ups on paper, but what is even better, the quality of these fights more than fulfilled expectations. The bouts in the main card are all outstanding. It starts with a grappling bonanza between Grove and Cote, a fight that has an unbelievable finish to boot. Stevenson and Pellegrino show us how much talent is present in the lightweight division, and we get to witness an evenly-matched fight where the contenders demonstrate how well-rounded their game is. If you can believe it, things get even better, with two extremely dangerous guys going head to head. Huerta is a powerful and well-rounded fighter that has been making a lot of noise in the UFC. Crane is one of the best Ju-Jitsu fighters in the world. I can only describe the confrontation as: What a fight!!
Then the more "famous" figures come in, with St. Pierre staging his comeback against the dominant Koscheck, who recently gave Sanchez his first loss. This is a fight full of surprises, with a nice variety of techniques and some very entertaining grappling and brawling. Finally, we get to the main event of the evening, with forty-three-year-old Couture trying to defend his title against the up and coming Gonzaga. The intensity of this fight is unbelievable, you cannot miss it!
Even though the main card fights are good enough to place this event among the best, most of the under card bouts are up to par. The only exception is Guida vs. Aurelio, which has the problem of it being a one-sided match-up. Those that like bloody fights will get two of them in this set; they almost look like a scene in a horror movie. In one of these, things go even further and the winner chokes out the loser, after the tap out, putting him to sleep. The reason: insults during the weigh-in. The attitude of the winner was wrong, but it is still useful to show that sometimes you have to be careful about how you treat others.
I highly recommend this event; it will go down as one of the best in the history of the UFC.
