Movie Reviews of U2 - Best of 1990-2000

Movie Review: A really good album for being a greatest hits!
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a really good album and the new songs that they put on here are really cool. The only thing I didnt care for were a couple of the new re-mixes but over time Im sure they might grow on me but otherwise i am happy that I bought it!

Movie Review: yes, just the videos
Summary: 4 Stars

As others have stated, yes this is just the music videos from back in the day when MTV used to play videos, lol!

Movie Review: "It's alright, it's alright, it's alright"...about
Summary: 3 Stars

I am not really sure how to write a good review, or how to start analysing this product, but I'll give it a shot. I really enjoy this DVD. However, it has some down points. First off, the sound quality is terrible. I am not quite sure whether there is problem with the DVD itself, or there is a problem with my own DVD player/sound system. The second down side of the DVD is that the video collection isn't complete, which really bothers me, probably more than it should. It omitted "Elevation" and "Walk On", which is a great video. It also didn't include the "Falling Buffalo" version of "One", and it may have left out others that I don't know of.

It is an otherwise fine DVD collection, which I enjoy watching a lot. It includes most of their 1990-2002 videos, along with commentary from the directors. Some of the directors like Godley were boring and monotonous, while others like Corbijn and Sedouni I enjoyed listening to and hearing their stories a lot. To be honest, it made me appreciate what was behind all of this besides the band itself. The intro, artwork, and menus are very nice and offer several options like play sequence; commentary on/off, language, etc. I thought it was great that alternative versions of videos and intimate documentaries were included, you can tell that the people behind this DVD put some effort into this. I actually learned some new stuff about U2, like their tours, the ideas behind their creations, and even Bono's interesting characters like The Fly and MacPhisto. The videos included do NOT match the playlist on the CD; it excludes "The First Time" (was there even a video for this song?) and includes several bonus videos and live performances, some that are new to me, like "The Fly", "Lemon", "Please", "If God Would Send His Angels" among others. Some of the versions of songs you hear in the videos are different from the studio versions, some better than others. The Temple-Bar Edit of "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses" was very good, while the MOFO remix was just garbage. U2 have always given their fans great videos, something new and brilliant every time. I would have to say my favourite videos on the whole DVD are the comical Batman-themed "Hold Me, Thrill Me Kiss Me, Kill Me" (it was interesting to see U2 animated, and Jim Carrey's hilarious!) and "Even Better Than The Real Thing" (Larry's good eye candy). If appreciated the way it is through my eyes and ears, this DVD should keep you occupied with hours of entertainment. It's great to watch on a boring day when you have nothing better to do. I really hope a 1980-1990 edition is released soon!

Note: The DVD packaging also includes an extra storage space for the bonus DVD that is included with the Special Edition Best Of 1990-2000 audio CD, to my convenience, or anyone else's if you already own it.

Movie Review: Important material missing...
Summary: 3 Stars

...for example, the "buffalo" version of One is not on the DVD. There is a documentary about why there are three versions of the video, but they only include two. This is all the more pitiful if you consider that all the packaging is based on the images from the "buffalo" version of One. The documentary offers a possible reason: the band thought that being "wallpaper" behind the live band was the video's "proper place" (I could not disagree more. I personally consider this the best of the One the best of the three and one of the best videos they ever made.)

So, keep your old copies of the Auchtung Baby video collection safe. But remember, 15 to 20 years is all magnetic tape can last... and only if you store it properly and you hardly ever watch it.

There are other problems: other material missing, the empty spot for the buy-seperately DVD, the odd play order, the menus which are a bit oddly organized, etc. All in all, the things that this DVD is lacking are completeness, thoughtfulness, and integrity.

Movie Review: does not cover the better videos
Summary: 3 Stars

the videos on this are OK. They left the best music videos from U2 off of this DVD. Another DVD should be made with more of the higher rated music videos that U2 made over there careers. Too much of U2's better songs were left out when making this DVD.
