Movie Reviews of U2 - Best of 1990-2000Movie Review: WOW! This is one awesome DVD! Summary: 5 Stars
This DVD is designed to go along with the band's second greatest hits collection of the same name, and features the video for every song on the album. Some of these videos feature concert footage from the Zoo TV and Popmart tours, and others are all original ideas. U2 proves to be one of the most visually pleasing bands when it comes to making videos, as every one of the videos on this disc is absolutely amazing. The sound quality is excellent, and the picture is good. The videos feature commentary tracks from the directors, and there are seven bonus videos that are added to the sixteen from the album. The DVD packaging is nice also, and features a full color pamphlet insert with a paragraph about each one of the videos featured. And what's this? An extra space is added to hold the DVD that came with the limited edition of the CD counterpart! Very clever! Great DVD.
Movie Review: Complete picture of U2 in the '90s Summary: 5 Stars
This DVD is flawless. Its definately an improvement on the limited edition 2CD version which had adulterated versions and unnecessary techno remixes. This is really a complete collection. At first glance, I thought it only had the 16 music videos listed on the box. Not only does this DVD have bonus videos such as Whose Gonna Ride, Please and Lemon, it has 3 documentaries, director commentaries for almost every video and even alternate video versions for songs such as the fantastic One, Staring At The Sun, Stuck In A Moment among others. My favorite videos here are the Berlin version of One, Numb, Stay, Even Better Than The Real Thing and The Fly. The documentary, 'The Story Of One' is really well made too. I dont know if I'm ever going to get tired of this collection. Totally worth the price!
Movie Review: A Classic! Summary: 5 Stars
I've got to admit that I've never really liked the music that U2 released after 1990. I thought their CDs during this time period were filled with some bad to mediocre songs mixed in with some gems.I received U2's "Best of 1990-2000" CD as a Christmas present and I was pleasantly surprised. It contains all the gems. I was so pleased that I went out and purchased the DVD. I had previously seen only four of the 16 video clips on the DVD so this was an eye-opener. I wasn't disappointed. I think this DVD will become a classic. If you purchase this DVD, there's an empty slot to store the limited promotional DVD "The History Mix" that is included with some of the "The Best of 1990 - 2000" CD.
Movie Review: Collection of Excellent Videos Summary: 5 Stars
Can I give anything U2 (Well, Zooropa & Popmart not included) less than 5 stars?? Never! I've been a U2 fan since the early days when I was a teen drooling over a very sexy Bono! This is an excellent cross section of videos from the 90's, when I wasn't as into the MTV scene as I was in the 80's, so I missed a lot of these. I really like U2 18 better, but there's a lot on this DVD that I wouldn't miss! Remember, these are a cross section of live in concert and music videos, so if you're a 'live' fan, you won't like it as much. These particular videos, to me, really show their overall beliefs and values, too, such as Bono's concern for ending violence and injustice. Add this DVD to your U2 collection and you won't be sorry!
Movie Review: Beautiful Videos Summary: 5 Stars
U2 has made some of the best and most inventive videos in history and The Best of 1990-2000 shows some of their finest moments. The original version of "One" is one of the most powerful videos of the 90's and it amply conveys the weight of the song's message about AIDS. The disk provides the capability to view director's cuts of videos and director commentary which is a nice addition and makes for a more interesting viewing of the videos. If you are a fan of U2, then this disk is a must own, but one wonders why they didn't release a Best of 1980-1990 dvd collection in conjunction with that greatest hits cd. You can only hope that this disk is a success and they release one so the U2 video catalogue would be complete.
