Movie Reviews of U TurnMovie Review: This isn't a Film for Grandma and Grandpa! Summary: 5 Stars
I'll just get started by saying flat out I love this movie. I mean it is one hilarious, sick, twisted and violent beast. Probably not a movie for the over 60 crowd. The performances are all top notch from Sean Penn all the way down to the cameo appearance of Bo Hopkins. And then of course the scene stealer Jon Voight in one of his best performances in years. And I also have to say Jennifer Lopez has her best role to date going the full range from sexy to sympathetic to sinister. The picture quality on the DVD is great and really puts you in the great American SouthWest. Same goes for the sound. Why are you reading this when you should be buying this truly unique film experience.
Movie Review: U Turn is as unusual as it's title Summary: 5 Stars
I cannot understand the people who didn't enjoy this movie. I agree with the person who said that Stone was not attempting to make a serious movie here; it's just supposed to be entertaining. And it delivers. I have watched it over a dozen times and I still find it very funny and entertaining. The characters in it are diverse and probably similar to the people you would meet in a forgotten town such as Superior. Mr Penn makes a character which would be easy to not care about into one you end up rooting for towards the end. And Mr Thornton plays this mechanic which anyone who has needed car repair out of town on travels can relate to. A must see.
Movie Review: Pure Pulpy Goodness Summary: 5 Stars
Oliver Stone tribute to the sleazy paperbacks of the 50's is manic trashy fun. The other reviewer "Kayla A Green" was wrong. Stone wasn't trying to ape Tarantino. It's an homage to Jim Thompson and the "true" crime pulps. Sean Penn plays the lead sleaze headed into a currupt nowhere town. The local trash include Nick Nolte playing a raspy redneck version of "Blue Velvet"'s Frank Booth, Bob Thorton, looking like the illegitimate son of Neville Brand from "Eaten Alive", playing the filthiest automechanic alive, and Jennifer Lopez in a not so stretched role as the triple crossing femme.
Movie Review: great movie, wrong box cover Summary: 5 Stars
The U-Turn shipped had a different box cover than the one advertised. I think there are different versions so I returned it for a refund. TCM and importcds (an Amazon seller) also only have the wrong box cover. I ended up getting it from Blockbuster.
What's different? Some of the cinematography is different. Maybe it's the VOD version. Maybe it's me but when I watched something was.
I agree with all the positive reviews. It's dark and troubling with no redemption anywhere. It's a real groundhog hell for Bobby Cooper(Sean Penn) in Superior, AZ.
Movie Review: A good film Summary: 5 Stars
I've seen Sean Penn in a few films now and they're all good. Oliver Stone is one of the finest men in film production. It's visually stunning, loads of mad camera pans and colour blast-outs! Jennifer Lopez is attractive an alluring who had sex with Nick Nolte who played her father. Sean Penn car breaks down in the middle of the desert he has to get this money to a bunch of bad guys or else he's dead they already cut off two of his fingers.
