Movie Reviews of TwinsMovie Review: The Ultimate Male vs. The Ultimate Meatball. Summary: 5 Stars
For the many many fans of the world's greatest B reviewer since the Jackie Robinson of the genre, Joe Bob Briggs, get ready for a few weeks of stretches. Usually, we stick to the letter of B law, but we are going to be going outside the box a little more. This starts with Twins. This is a film that was very successful, even topping the box office for a few weeks upon its release in 1988. Normally, we would never touch such a movie, but this one had a lot going for it. Most notably, Arnold, and the very basic principle of B, it was loaded with unintentional comedy.
Mostly everyone has seen Twins, or at least knows the story. Arnold was the product of a genetic experiment to create the perfect man. Devito was all the crap that was left over. They end up finding each other, their mom, and love. They also fall into some cash through the Les Diamond-like business practices of DeVito and start a consulting firm. Sid found himself making fun of roughly 85% of this movie, which is a great ratio even for us.
Needless to say, Sid totally dug this flick. How could we not? It was Arnold! The scenes in which Devito, a 4'11 long lost Sid relative from the North Pole area, acted like a big timer were priceless. They were all in the same class as the scene when Arnold was walking by a movie theater, sees a Rambo poster, then flexes his massive guns and laughs at Sly's puniness. Speaking of Arnold's guns, look for a review of Pumping Iron (25th Anniversary Special Edition) from Sid soon. As for Twins, we would have and did enjoy this one many times in our youth. Many times. In fact, let's get it with some drive-in totals:
1 wager on weather or not DeVito's Mustang is avalible on ebay
1 huge meal consumed by Arnold including a hot dog, pizza, amd a gyro
2 guest stars: by the Seinfeld Marble Rye Lady and David Caruso
1 Elf stunt double getting thrown through a window
2 car phones (80's movie staple)...
...and, most importantly, 4 soundboard lines.
Movie Review: Thank you for the cookies, I look forward to tossing them Summary: 5 Stars
... in which Danny DeVito teaches Arnold Schwarzenegger how to act in the big time movies. ("I'm learning" the latter insists.) What a delightful movie! In another era, this would have been a Lewis & Martin vehicle, or Abbott & Costello, or whoever else was doing the odd couple routine since the Flood, but, here is Schwarzenegger & DeVito. Schawarzenegger dives into his role as the country bumpkin getting a quick education in the big bad city, a role his career started with in Hercules and he'd soon enough perfect in Terminator 2 (think of the scenes in which he falteringly learns slang). Give me five. DeVito does most the heavy lifting in Twins acting-wise; his character development in the kitchen scene is quite affecting. Interesting cameos abound, such as Schwarzenegger regular Sven Thorsen as a goon and, wow, what a hot little guitar solo from Jeff Beck. Marshall Bell plays the heavy; he's a good guy in Total Recall. (Speaking of continuities, note the silver suitcase Schwarzenegger carries, there's one in Total Recall, too.) Director Ivan Reitman tells a good story and there's not a single scene without some reward, whether it's action, tear-jerking, romantic or humorous. Or any combination thereof. Sight gags (car on two wheels, chains dropping infinitely from the ceiling) are more modestly rationed than in Ghostbusters, and for the better. Most of the fun simply comes from the two stars. Make that four stars when you consider the romantic interest. Great chemistry, even in a supermarket aisle. Hats off to the female support, Kelly Preston and (especially) Chloe Webb. Play Twins for mom on Mother's Day. Or for your girlfriend any night.
Movie Review: Double your viewing pleasure with this film! Summary: 5 Stars
GHOSTBUSTERS director Ivan Reitman directs Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger in a hilarious film about twins Vince(DeVito) and Julius(Schwarzenegger) Benedict who have the same mom but different dads(6 dads among them). Julius spent most of his life, before finding Vince,on and island where he was loved and protected by his fellow residents. Vince is confronted by devious businessmen who he owes money to. Julius "beats the crap out of" one of the businessmen who grabs Vince by the throat. The twins do find their mother via careful research. Julius falls in love with Marnie, the sister of Vince's girlfriend. Vince teaches Julius how to drive, even showing him the locations of the accelerator and brakes. The two pairs of siblings all go for a weekend getaway. They're at a nightclub in Texas and are found by Vince's nemeses, who plan to kill him. Instead they get the crap beaten out of them by both Vince and Julius. Take note of how Vince and Julius dress exactly alike. In the last scene, the twins and their new wives have twins of their own, respectively. Isn't that awesome? As 1988 was nearing the end, this movie was released and was a box office success. Six years later,Reitman,DeVito and Schwarzenegger would reunite for JUNIOR.
Movie Review: Miraculous! Summary: 5 Stars
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito were twins switched at birth, what are the odds? What intelligence! Arnold lived a tropical life on a paradise island and Danny lived a cheap life in Los Angeles stealing cars. When they met for the first time, Arnold got upset that Danny wasn't immortal like he was. I would be too! Danny used Arnold to get out of prison and abandoned him. Dreadful! How could Danny do such a thing to a deity? Arnold was caring and wanted Danny to be a part of his life, but Danny didn't believe that Arnold was his brother! Idiocy! Eventually, Danny opens his heart and takes in Arnold. There the two dress in chic clothing to look like true twins! They fall in love with two sisters (one played by Kelly Preston). At the end, they find their mother and each have twins of their own. I was so deeply moved with this tear-jerker. Especially when the brothers met their mother for the first time, my heart had stopped. Every time I watch this movie, I use at least three kleenex boxes. Expensive! Arnold Schwarzenegger is truly a noble presence and in his next comedy, he proved that he is the superlative!
Movie Review: arnold shows his range here Summary: 5 Stars
When I first saw this film, I did not like it, but somthing told me to watch it again, & the second time around I loved it, and have ever since, once you get past the shallow back story, this film will entertain you, it is without a doubt a film the whole family could enjoy. Arnold tried to do somthing different here and did & Danny DeVito reminds you why he is so fuuny & serious at the same time, a fun film for those who don't take it so seriously, my only complaint about this DVD is the Full Frame version, Universal should reconsider rereleasing a widescreen version, they have with their other films that came out at about the same time, why not this one? hopefully they will someday.
