Movie Reviews of Twin Peaks - The Second SeasonMovie Review: A Welcome Return - TV at its best! Summary: 5 StarsI've been waiting for The second season dvd set for over five years - great transfer and surround sound really enhance the program's original unique quality. Beautiful to watch. Extras could have been better, but still by far my favorite television series! Highly recommend it.
Movie Review: Darth Bob is back!!!!!!!!!! Summary: 5 StarsAt last we have the rest of superb TV show Twin Peaks...Fire walk with me....!!!hehehehe......!!!!
Movie Review: Its about time! Summary: 4 StarsI waited a long time to get this. The second season was not quite as
good as the first season, but it was still awesome!
Movie Review: Not as cool as the first season box set, but I'm happy to have it! Summary: 4 StarsOf course, the show is fantastic, and the remastering of the episode audio is great. I wish as much care had gone into the packaging of this set as had gone into the first season set, and I was disappointed that the Log Lady intros. did not have remastered audio as well (the audio is noticably quieter than the episodes, leading to having to adjust the volume every time). I haven't been able to get to the special features yet, but the interviews of the actors should be very interesting. All in all, if you like Twin Peaks, you have to get this DVD set (especially if your VHS tapes are getting worn out)! Now all we need is the Pilot Episode on DVD (perhaps with both endings . . .?).
Movie Review: Quirky cult classic will satisfy fans Summary: 5 StarsThis ground-breaking fantasy/sci-fi/drama cult classic will satisfy fans of the series - short-lived as it was. Twin Peaks lost much of its fan base after the first episode of the second season (the first season is a mere 7 episodes long, not including the 2-hour pilot) when Laura Palmer's killer wasn't revealed right away. As fans of Lost (the TV show) understand, TV time just isn't the same as real time!
It's possible that David Lynch was making this up as he went along, but even if that's true, it still stands up as one of the best shows ever produced. From the eerie and 50s-ish music (brilliantly composed by Angelo Badalamenti) and the costumes by Emmy-winning Sara Markovich (her name appears in HUGE letters in the credits) to the strange dream sequences and quirky dialogue ("MMMM that's good coffee!"), Twin Peaks stands out as a much-imitated show. X-Files, Northern Exposure and the 21-century show Lost all took some of their ideas from Twin Peaks (like naming their characters: can you say Harry S Truman, Philip Michael Gerard?)
Although the show starts out as mystery-driven, it quickly becomes character-driven, showing how this small city ("Welcome - Twin Peaks - Population 51,201") can have so many secrets and such a seamy underside of drugs, murder and betrayals. So much of the character is revelaed in the dialogue. One of Agent Dale Cooper's first encounters with the staid and smart Sheriff Harry S Truman is punctuated by the sudden question regarding what kind of trees those evergreens are! Deputy Andy's deep compassion is revealed in his crying over the dead body of Laura Palmer. They spend a lot of time on the ditzy Lucy Moran's trying to "patch" Harry through to different phone calls, and man, all those donuts! David Lynch's turn as the stone-deaf Gordon Cole is priceless. It's character-revealing, funny TV.
When Lynch and Frost were forced to reveal the killer by TPTB, the show then had to take a new turn, coming up with some convoluted plots, adding new characters like Windom Earle and making Cooper take an enforced leave from the FBI. It's too bad because I wouldn't have cared if I ever found out who killed Laura Palmer. I would have rated it a 4.5 if I could have for this reason alone, although I certainly don't blame Lynch and Frost, given this detail.
