Turkish Belly Dance Instructional DVD This 2 hour instructional DVD is taught by Artemis Mourat, MA, MSW and the subject is the Turkish style of Oriental belly dance. Even if you are not a dancer, this material is broken down so clearly that you will learn easily. If you are already a dancer, this DVD will thoroughly introduce you to this highly charged and exciting genre. This DVD is broken down into 40 chapters so you can easily identify the material and go back for review as much as you like. Artemis Mourat is the undisputed leading authority on Turkish belly dance in the United States. She is a master teacher, a consummate performer and a diligent researcher and she is of Turkish heritage. She wrote the script, designed the documentary, chose the material and choreographed the combinations. This highly cultured and well educated woman brings 35 years of expertise to her product. Her warmth, humor and enthusiasm is contagious. This DVD begins with a comparison and contrast between Turkish and Egyptian style Belly Dance and a description of the history of the dance. Artemis then offers an explanation of some of the popular Turkish rhythms and demonstrates how your dance will change in order to accommodate the Turkish time signatures. You will learn with step-by-step detailed instruction as Artemis clearly breaks down 9 isolations of head, torso, abdominal, pelvic and hip articulations, some full body undulations and shimmies. You WILL learn to roll your stomachs with her witty and effective explanation. She then teaches a three step turn and barrel turns, some steps, knee lifts and some of the ever elusive Romany gestures. Artemis combines the steps for slow and then for fast music.
