Movie Reviews of TrumanMovie Review: Incredibly Good Summary: 5 Stars
Presents the image of a plain speaking honest man who didn't hesitate to do the right thing. This film is exceptionally well-acted, and Gary Sinise is the spitting image of Harry Truman--even the voice sounds the same. I generally don't cry at the movies, but I did get teary eyed over this one--not because of deaths or tragedies, but because of patriotic sentimentality rarely seen in films today. The man actually took the bible in both hands and kissed it at his inaugurations. Although Truman was (and is) controversial, he comes across in this film in a nostalgic and appealing way. Highly Recommended. (A previous reviewer noted the absence of subtitles or closed captioning and this was a major problem for me also.)
Movie Review: Gary Sinise does it again! Summary: 5 Stars
This DVD stars Gary Sinise as Harry S. Truman and covers his life from when he is a farmer, through marrying Bess, up until the time he leaves the White House. Gary is terrific as usual and when he gets going as the older Truman on the campaign trail, he is dynamic. Also stars Diana Scarwid as Bess, who is usually in campy movies such as playing Christina Crawford in Mommie Dearest, but she is also very endearing as Mrs. Truman. There are some very cute points, especially when the Truman's move into the White House, the "first house they have ever had alone" and Mrs. Truman comments about how dirty it is! Not to be missed! One minor flaw - there are NO special features on this DVD.
Movie Review: very nice adaptation of David McCullough's book!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I highly recommend this suprisingly good dvd: Gary Sinise as Harry S. Truman is brillaint, as are the other actors. I didn't think anyone could make a movie out of David McCullough's masterpiece...I was wrong. Get this!

Movie Review: Truman True Summary: 5 Stars
This film caught the essence of both the time and the man - and is a great addition to a good film library. Whether or not you cared for (or even can remember) Truman, this portrayal is clear and accurate. The President's mother-in-law was morbid curiosity to me, and I was left with a strong desire to see if she reaped enough of what she sewed, but her character, too, accurately reflected behavior of the times.
It's a time I'm glad is gone, and the film is one I'm glad I own.
Movie Review: Truman Summary: 5 Stars
Honestly, Gary Sinise is so good in this movie, that I felt I was watching "Give 'em Hell Harry" instead of watching an actor play Harry Truman. While the nation mourned the death of FDR, Truman had to step in and take over the Presidency. His innate "horse sense" carried him through as he was forced to make one of the most momentous decisions in the course of human history. This movie should be on everyone's "must see" list. It's a "keeper."
