Movie Reviews of True ConfessionsMovie Review: A Masterpiece Summary: 5 Stars
"The arteries leading to the pump are shot"says Desmond Spellacy (DeNiro) to his brother and the look of Tom Spellacy's (Duvall) face tells its all, the anguish, the concern, the guilt, and the love of one's brother. Ulu Grosbard's film about personal and institutional corruption of all types and then final redemption is an absolute masterpiece. Although too slow moving for some people's tastes, the film features a myriad of great acting performances, certainly Duvall and DeNiro, but from supporting cast as well, particularly Ken MacMillan as Tom Spellacy's blatantly corrupt detective partner. Great, great film.
Movie Review: I love these actors and their performances! Summary: 5 Stars
this is one of those films where you watch it, not so much for the story, but for the acting. Duvall is one of my favorite all time actors and he shows such restraint in this film and the scenes between him and "brother" in the film, robert de niro, are so amazing that i could (and do) watch them over and over again. for those who love acting, and love to observe amazing performances that will just take your breath away, watch these two masters at work. the performances of every one else in the film are also wonderful.
Movie Review: Professional Actors Summary: 5 Stars
This is a real showcase for three great actors, Robert Duvall,Robert DeNiro and Charles Durning.
I saw the movie in the theater when it first came out. I had to immediately read the book.
I would recommend the book but the movie is more entertaining. This story rings true as a parable about two brothers struggling with their ethics and morals.
Heavy religuous references.
Movie Review: True Confessions DVD Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great movie the meaning of which does not diminish over time. Conflicts between brothers are explored as are conflicts in beliefs systems. The movie addresses human falibity in the face of the seductiveness of power and the enduring windows of opportunity opened up by the power of forgiveness.
Movie Review: Classic LA Summary: 5 Stars
The two Roberts ... what a great mix between Chinatown and The Black Dalia story ... Robert the priest and Robert the detective ... two brothers separate lives collide ... Money, Sex, Graft, Influence peddeling ... very authentic Los Angeles, ironic, yet liberating story.
