Movie Review: Trick Is A Treat: One of my All-Time Favorites
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't imagine there will ever be a better gay-date movie than Trick.

With two extremely-appealing leads, a witty and romantic script, surprisingly good performances by a host of players, including the totally fresh and unexpected Tori Spelling, and even a sweet soundtrack, Trick will make you want to run right out and fall in love. Not even the hardest heart could watch Trick and not root for the two adorable male leads to finally get together and consummate their long-delayed first kiss.

Christian Campbell is the most-winning boy ever as Gabriel. They couldn't have picked a cuter actor, and he performs the role with a totally crush-worthy innocence and lack of confidence. He fumbles, he blushes, he shuffles, he bats his pretty eyes and looks downward - you'll just want to take him in your arms and protect him from the big bad world.

As his object of affection, John Paul Pitoc is not as strong an actor, but, by the halfway mark, you come to appreciate his sleepy demeanor and sexy New York accent. Pitoc brings a sly charm to his role, and, if he were any sexier, you'd probably find yourself humping the TV.

If they ever give an Oscar for Best Performance by a Drag Queen EVER, Clinton Leupp - in his alter ego of Miss Coco Peru - better get the prize. His brief time onscreen is hysterical and electrifying. He lip synchs a disco version of I Am Woman with a fierceness that will make you forget Helen Reddy ever existed, and his scene with Campbell in the men's room is an all-time classic.

Trick reminds you why falling in love is fun. By the sweeping climax of the film, you'll want to hit the streets and find some fun of your own.

Lastly, it's so great to see a movie where the characters don't agonize over being gay - they are who they are, and they, you - and anyone else who sees this movie - wouldn't want it any other way.

Movie Review: A beguiling, well-made, "feel-good" gay screwball comedy.
Summary: 5 Stars

Much praise has been heaped on this so-called "gay screwball comedy"---and it deserves every drop of it. Sexy and romantic, it's a celluloid example for anyone who's had a "hookup"--gay or straight--go disastrously, hilariously wrong. Adorable Christian Campbell (Gabriel) and hunky J.P. Pitoc (Mark) prove that they're not just pretty boys, they can add depth to their characters & break stereotypes. Tori Spelling gets out from under her famous father's shadow with a delightful performance as Christian's sparsely-talented, often bulldozing best friend. Her explosive freak-out in the "diner" scene is one of the movie's many highlights. Steve Hayes turns what could've been a one-note character into a funny, solid supporting turn as Christian's older, cabaret-singing friend. Even sexy Wil Keenan makes a cameo as a friendly but lecherous bar patron who tries to pick up Christian--a character who frequents most bars in real life. And it's populated with "user" characters we've all encountered at some point: the bitchy drag queen who warns Christian about the "evil" Mark; the trashy "party" friend who wants Mark for himself; and the thoughtless, one-track mind roommate who monopolizes the apartment so he can sleep with the latest girl.
Gabriel & Mark's efforts to find a place to "consummate" their hookup builds & builds until they finally realize that this is more than a quest for sex---it's a quest for love, something more meaningful. Earlier on, when go-go dancer Mark gives his dark, smoldering looks to Gabriel while onstage, you can almost read his thoughts (continued afterwards on the subway). When they both affectionately hold hands under the table during the ridiculous "diner banter" scene, you know what's happening is destined to be. And their climactic kiss on a street corner goes beyond the film's ending, indicating happily the best is yet to come for Mark & Gabriel.
Simply put, this is a well-done "feel-good" little movie that leaves you singing a song as well.

Movie Review: It was a one night stand that wasn't...it made me smile:-)
Summary: 5 Stars

The music is really good, especially in the club. Boy (Gabe) sees boy (Mark)dancing on the bar, boy then sees boy riding in the train, boy and boy go back to Gabe's place but can't do it. They can't do it for various reasons - Tori Spelling plays the best friend who wants Gabe and doesn't want anyone else to have him so stays until they throw her out; Gabe can't relax enough to do it so plays the piano, Mark tries to pleasure him which does work but then the roommate comes home with his girlfriend who has been in France (and comes back with hairy armpits). It is a one room place so that is the end of that because the roommate claims the place. The movie basically follows Gabe and Mark while they are looking for a place to 'do it'...but it becomes more than that. They have adventures on the way...they make you smile, they make you cringe. The scenes in the club show the relationship develop then break apart thanks to the drag queen, or should that be drama queen? I have to say the bathroom scene where Gabe can't go in front of the drag queen make me wiggle in my seat, praying that he starts to go becuase he really needs too. So like me, I can't go when others are there either...horrible. Anyway, things go bad because of a misunderstanding and Gabe beats a retreat home, Mark follows... The ditzy girlfriend of the roommate delightfully works to fix things while she sits there topless...yep, topless. What the movie ends up being about is the start of a relationship, not a one-night stand that wasn't. I like this, but realise not everyone will. Mark has a great body but the face? Am I being shallow again? This is cute and makes me smile...you know I always say who doesn't need a smile? There is overacting, mostly from Tori and her friends, and the friend who has just broken up with his boyfriend of 7 years. But in the main it is good, well I like it:0)

Movie Review: A Triumphant Little Stride in Gay Cinema
Summary: 5 Stars

What can I say? This movie starts out like your typical queer flick, but soon turns into a wonderful heartfelt love story of two little guys in the great big city. When they try to have this "date", it just goes completely awry! Emtpy sex is not what this movie is about (what, at first, it would appear). It's about that first look that makes your heart start pounding and your tummy start doing cartwheels! It's about the disarming little glances, holding hands, and that first kiss! MORE THAN EVER, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN...we are seeing greater acceptance of the gay community in movies and society today. It absolutely makes me proud to be gay when a wonderful film like this comes along and relates some of the things that gay people feel. This movie also realizes relationships with gay and straight people. I do, in fact, feel that any number of my straight friends wouldn't mind watching this movie! In fact, I plan to show it tonight! My most important point I feel I should make about this film is that IT IS TIME that gay society start acting in a civil manner when it comes to dating or courtship. That's the point. Gay people don't know how to date, only have sex. With a whole new younger generation of gay kids coming out, their first experiences should be like in this movie, one could only wish. This film is such a wonderful commentary on how beautiful a gay relationship can be. People need to see that there is more to gay people that just sex- or disease- related issues. This film demonstrates a wonderful lesson of how gay love should be pursued in this next century that we've just happened upon. Thank you... to the producers for making such a wonderful piece of work that touched my heart and brought a tear to my eye!

Movie Review: Chelsea Fun Without The Attitude
Summary: 5 Stars

What do you get when you mix an aspiring musician working as an office temp with a hot go-go boy? The answer is "Trick" a charming movie that proves that looks aren't everything. Christian Campbell (brother of Neve) stars as Gabriel, a composer of showtunes who meets the man of his fantasies dancing atop a counter at a gay club in New York. J.P. Pitoc, who plays Mark, is the go-go boy with a body to die for who finds himself and Gabriel trying to locate a place where they can fool around. Due to several mishaps, both men get to know each other's interests and friends, and eventually they discover each other's inner beauty. Pitoc is probably the best looking actor I have seen on film in recent years and his torso inspired me to work out even more. He provided enough eye candy for everyone. Campbell is great as Gabriel, however the two scene stealers in this are Clinton Leupp who plays the bitchy drag queen that confronts Gabriel about Mark's past and Tori Spelling, who plays Gabriel's best friend. Personally, seeing that her father had no role in producing this film gave Ms. Spelling more credibility that she was casted in this film for her talent and not because of neptotism (e.g. "House of Yes"). An excellent soundtrack of dance music will keep you in the mood, and the interesting characters in this film will give those who have never stepped into a gay/lesbian club circuit an idea of what goes on after the sun sets. Except for a kiss between the two main characters and a brief encounter beneath a piano, there are hartdly any references to gay sex. I encourage anyone to watch this film in what I consider a gay version of the "Pick Up Artist".
