Movie Review: another good BDS dvd

This performance DVD is not as bad as many claim. Sometimes during torso movements the cameraman will do an extreme facial close-up--annoying--but it doesn't happen often. This is a performance DVD, not a tutorial, so theatrical flare isn't excluded. Besides, fans of BDS should expect this camera style; it happens on all of their performance DVDs. The outstanding performances on Tribal Fusions are from Sharon Kihara, Moria Chappell, Samantha, Zoe Jakes, and Rachel Brice. Rachel Brice, although good, is very overrated. Across the internet, aspiring dancers list her as the greatest bellydancer ever. While good, I sense a desire to be better. On other DVDs, her drum solo improvs suffer, probably from anxiety of competing with masters like Sonia or Sharon Kihara. On this DVD she has a great drum piece, albeit non-improv to a pre-recorded drum solo. She always has the most fluid undulation but falls short in overall skill compared to others. Like Sharon Kihara, whose eerie first dance is the best of all. Moria's better dances were on TF:2 or Tribal LA, but she shines here as well (and hosts a DVD extra). Like Moria, Samantha's best can be found on the other DVDs, but these early dances are great. She has a unique belly shimmy and undulates similar to her teacher Rachel Brice. Zoe Jakes is good on all Tribal volumes. Dusty Palk is good, but I don't understand the strange twitches every once in a while, like her system is shorting out temporarily. On one dance it's okay, but both? Overall, you get two dances per dancer and one worthwhile DVD extra, and most editions come with the soundtrack. BDS always shine.
