Movie Reviews of TremorsMovie Review: Classic Comedy Monster Film Summary: 5 Stars
This film has been around for some time and there are probably quite a number of previous reviews. I rated the film as 5 stars because of the humor, the quality of the special effects at the time and the chemistry between the characters portrayed by Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward. As subterranean monsters strike from underground, somehow the responsibility of saving the residents of the small town falls on these two country-boy handymen. Their attempts to leave the small community for better opportunities elsewhere are thwarted by the activities of the monsters. The addition of a suvivalist couple, played to the hilt by Michael Gross and Reba McEntire, takes the humor over the top. The battle for survival includes the use of a riding lawnmower, a bulldozer, the survivalist's home made bombs and the concept of "stampede." A very entertaining film, which I watch over and over again.
Movie Review: A perfect combination of action, wit and comedy Summary: 5 Stars
If you are looking for serious horror or terror, you better pass over Tremors; but if you are looking for a delightfully witty action film with just the right balance of tension and comedy you will love Tremors. Val (Kevin Bacon) and Earl (Fred Ward) are two handymen doing odd jobs in a tiny western town named "Perfection". When strange deaths start occurring, they become involved in the investigation. Soon they end up in the battle of their lives. The chemistry between Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward is wonderful; you never lose interest when they are talking. And the clever lines work perfectly with the tension and action ("Here it is Monday and I'm already planning for Wednesday. It is Monday isn't it?"). I've probably watched this movie a dozen times, and I enjoy it every time. The DVD version is well done. END
Movie Review: A fun movie with a great cast and tight screenplay. Summary: 5 Stars
Tremors tells the classic story of a small community fighting for survival against underground monsters. It's classic horror-movie stuff with a twist: unlike most Hollywood horror flicks, the characters look and talk like real people, and as the story progresses, you actually root for them to win. The last horror flick I saw where I didn't cheer for the monsters was the original 'Night of the Living Dead' (1969). The cast makes the people of Perfection real to us, and the dialogue is as sharp and funny as the best Mel Brooks movie. The action is fast-paced, but the tone is always positive. This film is great fun; I never get tired of watching it. Be sure to check out the "Making of..." feature and the original ending; excellent documentaries from the film-makers. You'll enjoy this disk for years to come.
Movie Review: Welcome to "Perfection!" Summary: 5 Stars
A small desert town gets overtaken by giant, man-eating worms. It's one of those ideas that you can screw up quite easily. Tremors, on the other hand, takes it quite nicely. The storyline is obviously well thought out and leaves very little to be questioned. Granted, a few scenes made me say, "Now wait a minute..." Yet the movie flows with such preciseness, it's hard to knock it down. Tremors stars an outstanding cast of believable characters and is filled with enough humor and heart-pounding action to keep you HIGHLY entertained. I'll admit, I dove into Tremors with the intent to make fun of it, but I was too engrossed by the movie to say anything. For all you monster fans: If you can handle the profanity and a few gut-wrenching scenes, you are going to love this. This is what true classics are made of.
