Movie Reviews of TremorsMovie Review: Tremors: More Humor Than Horor Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of my favorite movies because it is so darn funny. For those that generally shun horror movies give this one a look it's really not that horrible. For one thing you really only see the monsters now and then though you hear them and see the results of them burrowing around after people.I generally shy away from depicting scenes in reviews too often but here is an example of one time the monsters make an appearance. Michael Gross and Reba McEntire play a survivalist couple Burt and Heather Gummer. They are in their basement breaking out the guns from the gun cabinet when one of the monsters bursts in upon them. While this is going on Kevin Bacon and the others are listening to the fight over the radio from a rooftop and a ferocious gun battle ensues. Long story short the monsters loose that match up. After they kill the creature one of the guys hold out on the roof turns to the other and says "Well I guess we can't make fun of Burt's lifestyle no more". Anyways that's just one scene so I haven't given much away to be honest but it's really a much more amusing than a scary movie and I recommend it.
Movie Review: cousinpaco's top terrors: #10 Summary: 5 Stars
You're stuck in the desert, being chased by massive, burrowing, carnivorous worms. You're five hundred feet from a boulder, with a worm right on your heels. You're not even sure the boulder will offer protection, but it's the only option you have.Sounds like a freaky nightmare, doesn't it? "Tremors" is a witty, logical monster movie - not once did I find myself yelling at the characters for being completely stupid. Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward are terrific as salt-of-the-Earth handymen, who find themselves in the situation described above. The film even has the integrity to cast a non-bimbo in the female lead. The special effects are remarkably convincing - some of the best creature FX I've seen. Of course, the squeamish may want to steer clear; there's an awful lot of goopy worm innards. The real highlight, though, is the screenplay. The plot is tension-filled and well-structured, and quite believable (which is strange, considering the subject matter). With a nice array of bonus features, "Tremors" is a must-have DVD for monster-movie fans. It also makes a great gift!
Movie Review: Midnight Movie Perfection Summary: 5 Stars
Do you remember in the 70's and 80's those local UHF Ghost Host shows that would come on every Saturday night around Midnight? Elvira is the most famous I guess, but here in the Baltimore area we had Count Gore DeVol on channel 20, or the Ghost Host on channel 45. Every week you would be treated to great schlock like "Teenagers from Outer Space" or "Attack of the Killer Shrews", and as I kid, I loved popping a big old bowl of popcorn and staying up into the wee hours watching these movies. Sadly, the days of the indy UHF stations are gone, and the Ghost Hosts are a thing of the past...but if they were still around, you can be sure "Tremors" would be in heavy rotation. This movie is just so much fun with a perfect blend of humor, action, and several pretty tense moments. Sure, "Tremors" screams B-MOVIE...and that is what is so great about it. "Tremors" doesn't take itself too seriously...and neither should you. The movie unfolds and it's a fun little ride, one that should be taken when the moon is out, when everyone else is in bed....and with a big old bowl of popcorn planted in your lap.
Movie Review: The worms turn. Summary: 5 Stars
I found this to be one of the most enjoyable horror movies produced in many years.Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward play per parts in this monster/buddy film. The location shots along with the special effects are some of the best done on the limited budget that this film was given that i have ever seen. The acting throughout was done with alot of obvious tongue's in cheek and you can tell that everyone was having alot of fun making this movie. The DVD version is especially great because of the DVD quality and all the extra's given in the collectors edition. It is definately worth the cost, especially if you want to know everything about how this movie was made-very interesting specials in this format. If you are looking for something with a monster that obviously was not designed to really frighten and except for some very brief profanity and one quick shot of the heroin running quickly in her underwear, this is almost perfect family entertainment(except if you are really super sensitive and then you shouldn't really watch any horror/monster films).HIGHLY recomment this movie.
Movie Review: For sheer fun, "Tremors" can't be beat Summary: 5 Stars
What a rare treat to have comedy and horror blended together so amazingly well! This movie takes a standard thriller plot (small group of colorful characters becomes trapped by monsters and must work together and use their heads to figure out how to escape) and makes it seem brand-new. The rapport between the cast members--Bacon and Ward in particular--beautifully serves an already tight script. This movie has it all: drama, excitement, laughs, creativity, scares, and yes, even our hero's search for a good woman. Don't be put off by the fact that it co-stars Michael Gross and Reba McIntyre... their characters are two of the most enjoyable in the movie! As survivalists with somewhat itchy trigger fingers, the mere concept of these two characters could have easily plunged the movie into stupidity. But this is no inane shoot-'em-up flick. The direction and script are smart, and they don't let us down. Buy "Tremors." It's a blast. You won't regret it. I promise. If you don't love it, come find me and I will personally call you a moron.
