Movie Reviews of TremorsMovie Review: When did you last see a monster flick that was also lovable? Summary: 5 Stars
This movie may not be a boring, worthy classic like "Taxi Driver" or even an exciting, worthy classic like "Goodfellas", but it is one of my top personal great-Hollywood-popcorn-entertainment all-time classics. When my kids (3 & 1 years old) grow into monster-movie loving pre-teens I plan to introduce them to this one. It's got it all, starting with a very appealing cast (I could just adopt Fred Ward and Kevin Bacon,) very tense moments and a smart "how to get rid of that last monster" solution that doesn't involve the military or alpha-waves or other standard dumb ending. I haven't watched the special features of the DVD in a while, but I remember thoroughly enjoying the director's comments, special effects featurettes and alternative ending. And I'll never, never get tired of watching Fred Ward and Kevin Bacon doing "rock, paper, scissors", bargaining with the store owner, or telling the road workers about the maniac in the neighborhood. Yeah, I think I'll introduce my kids to "The Godfather", "Goodfellas", "Ed Wood", "Singin' in the Rain", "On the Waterfront", "A Christmas Story", "Some Like It Hot", "Rear Window" and "TREMORS"! (among others, of course.)
Movie Review: Tremors Summary: 5 Stars
Trying to escape their dead-end life in the desert town of Perfection, Nevada, Valentine McKee and Earl Bassett find themselves sidetracked when corpses mysteriously start piling up around them. When Val and Earl have a run-in with some creepy tentacled creatures that have made lunch out of a road crew, they retreat back to the town to spread the news. Although these monsters are not exactly intellectuals, their mental powers are still mind-boggling. Detecting a human hiding in a car, they dig under the vehicle, causing it to sink into the earth. Val and Earl get help from several townspeople. With the help of Rhonda, Val and Earl kill one of the monsters. But there are three of them left, and they are each about 30 feet long. Walter starts calling the monsters graboids. When the survivors think they have outwitted the graboids by taking refuge atop the roofs of buildings, the graboids merely destroy the buildings' foundations, killing two people. The graboids are quick learners when it comes to stalking their prey, and the humans must continually be on their toes if they are to stay alive while they try to find a way to defeat the graboids. "Tremors" succeeds in what it sets out to be, an exciting and wonderfully entertaining horror thriller. A lot of fun and highly recommended.

Movie Review: Attention monster movie lovers: Summary: 5 Stars
TREMORS is nothing more then pure fun. The story takes place in a very small Western town that is besieged by four giant sluglike monsters. These slugs attack anything that causes a seismic vibration on the ground much like a piranha attacks anything that leaks blood. But these slugs chase after a would-be victim with the speed of a runaway train. And add to that, the surviving slugs seem to get smarter when one of their own is killed. This is one film where the producers could have just put in a bunch of teenagers that only serve the purposes of taking their clothes off and being victims. But instead, we get a several enjoyable characters that we can actually care about. Fred Ward and Kevin Bacon are priceless as two laborers looking for work only to find - How do I put it? - man-eating slugs. Michael Gross, who plays an NRA poster boy, is far removed from his role as an ex-hippie on FAMILY TIES. His equally gun-toting wife is played by country singer Reba McIntyre, who turns in an impressive performance. Unlike all the FREDDY THE 13TH (Don't blame me if I can't tell'em apart) movies, you find yourself rooting for these people. While this movie might not be CITIZEN KANE, it is a perfect rental for a Friday night.
Movie Review: everything but the kitchen sink...and a commentary Summary: 5 Stars
Great B-movie with A-budget. Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward play great hillbillies with dreams of a better life. The creatures are of an awesome and very realistic design. The behind the scenes are very cool as well. Probably half an hour long detailing of the production. The featurette is only 5-10 minutes. The profiles are only a couple of minutes long and are comprised mostly of the same shots as the featurette and behind the scenes film. The production notes are only five pages or so. The is no commentary track, which is my favorite thing about a special edition. All on all, for $27.99, this is a bargain. This would cost $100.00+ on laserdisc. Now, if only these things would contain tons of text. If you have seen the Jim Cameron LDs you'll know what I'm talking about. Hundreds of pages, interspersed with storyboards and video interviews describing the process that almost every frame of film went through. I have yet to see a DVD with near that kind of detail. Still, this is a good example of where DVDs are today. Be sure to fill out your oppinion card that comes with this title and write in "More behind the scenes and production notes".
