Movie Reviews of Traitor

Movie Review: Taut
Summary: 5 Stars

In an interview about his starring role in Traitor, Don Cheadle was asked
"And you learned Arabic for the job?" He could have said something to the effect that it was part of the role or it wasn't easy, implying that he did speak Arabic. Instead, he said that he only learned the words he spoke in the film and that's "a much different notion than learning the language."

I think this film has that kind of honesty. It strikes a balanced view of the War on Terror. It makes it clear that our enemy is dangerous, formidable, committed, and sophisticated. Understanding an enemy in war not only helps us win the war; more importantly, such understanding may avert the war in the first place.

The film also looks at the mindset of devout Muslims who do not support terrorism.

I would not dream of spoiling this movie. It's just too compelling. The suspense is taut, indeed, and there are surprising plot turns that any hints might ruin. Suffice it to say that Cheadle plays Samir Horn, a former U.S. Army Special Forces Staff Sergeant who has developed ties to Islamic terrorists. He is pursued in diverse locations around the world by two FBI agents. The supporting cast is great. Nary a dull moment. Highly recommended.

Movie Review: Traitor
Summary: 5 Stars

Samir Horn (Cheadle) is supplying detonators to an Islamic terrorist group when a FBI raid kills or captures everyone at the compound. FBI agents Roy Clayton (Pearce) and Max Archer (McDonough) take the survivors into custody. While in prison, Samir and the terrorist leader Omar (Taghmaoui) form a bond, and when Omar makes his escape, he takes Samir with him. Now, Samir is an inside man who can stop an major attack on U. S. soil. He is so deep undercover that only one person, Carter (Daniels) knows about him. Now, he must find a way to stop the attack and get out before it is too late.

"Traitor" is a top notch drama with some action sprinkled in. Don Cheadle is excellent as always as the conflicted Muslim who can stop a massacre. The story is timely and intelligent. A focus of the movie is the difference between fundamentalist Islam and the non-violent Islam. Cheadle's Samir is of the non-violent type, and as violence becomes necessary, it is interesting to see his character deal with things. The supporting cast is also well-cast, playing characters that are more grey than black or white. I highly recommend "Traitor" and encourage checking it out.

Movie Review: Excellent Don Cheadle Thriller
Summary: 5 Stars

Traitor is a fantastic thriller starring Don Cheadle as Samir Horn, a Muslim who was born in Sudan and moved to America as a teenager. He grows up to be a Special Forces soldier for the US, and as the movie begins, we see him moving through the Middle East selling explosives.

His fate crosses with two FBI agents, played by Guy Pearce and Neal McDonough. Soon the two are crisscrossing the globe hunting Samir, who is becoming more and more involved with a cell led by a terrorist mastermind.

The film is written and directed as a great thriller with enough action and suspense to keep you ocuupied and guessing, but not to the extent that it comes off like a routine action movie trying to be more than it is. The film has several twists and surprises and keeps the viewer engaged throughout.

But everything is held together is by Cheadle, who burnishes his reputation as one of Hollywood's greatest talents. His Samir is at once devious, treacherous, loving, compassionate, stubborn, and dangerous. Traitor is a great film, but it would not possess the same impact with a lesser talent as its star.

Movie Review: Great acting by Cheadle and Pearce - SPOILER ALERT!
Summary: 5 Stars

Excellent script, direction, acting and storyline. Don Cheadle as Samir Horn, the "bomb-maker" of a secret terrorist organization is convincing as the "deep cover operative" and Guy Pearce as the relentless FBI agent Roy Clayton on his trail. The last few tension-filled minutes are worth it; and amply demonstrates that superior direction and editing can result in an excellent movie. Great support from Said Taghmaoui as Omar, Samir's "brother-in-arms."

The last couple of minutes got me really tense as I thought Don Cheadle (Samir) was going to get blown away by the "other guards" on the boat (what happened to them when the good guys boarded the ship?).
Anyway, I figured Samir had somehow sabotaged the simultaneous bombings by wiring the explosives incorrectly on all the bombers. Then I saw that they all seemed to have boarded only one type of bus line. Sure, it could've been a nationwide bus service, so I figured he'd set them all to blow up together. Didn't realize that one was enough to take out the entire "crew." Too bad that hapless bus driver had to be sacrificed.

Movie Review: An Absorbing Thriller

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I went into this movie cold, knowing nothing about it,but I liked the past work of several of it's stars so I wanted to see it.

I won't go into many details here because personally I don't enjoy reading other people's spoilers.
It's a movie having to do with the current world we live in and who's the bad guys & who's the good guys. It's a fascinating look where you're not sure who's who, with many people pretending to be one thing but end up being another.

It's a well put together movie that looks great and was shot all over the world.
This movie captured my attention and never lost it.
For the extras there are a couple of shorts about the movie and an audio commentary with actor Don Cheadle and Jeffery Nachmanoff the writer & director.
It's well worth your time & money.
