Movie Review: Jeffrey Nachmanoff Hits It Out of the Park
Summary: 5 Stars

As a former spy and leading critic of the $65 billion a year spent by the secret world, I normally limit my DVD intake to hotels and airplanes, but this one attracted my attention and deservedly so.

This is one of a tiny handful of decent depictions of the spy world, and I want to note that Jeffrey Nachmanoff, a name most will not notice, was also the screen writer for The Day After Tomorrow (Widescreen Edition).

The over-all plot is credible, well-acted, well-filmed, and I was pulled in to give this my undivided attention. The subtleties of inter-agency competition and non-sharing were well integrated.

Bottom line: a top-notch offering all the way around, but I want to single out Nachmanoff for getting it right. He's a talent to watch.

Movie Review: Great Don Cheadle Film
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I highly recommend this film. Because there was never a dull moment, it had me riveted to the couch. One advantage to watching a DVD is the ability to stop and start at will, but there isn't a good place to stop this film -- you just have to keep watching.

After Hotel Rwanda, I wanted Don Cheadle to be a good guy but, throughout the film, it was often hard to gauge. Thank goodness the camera was there so I could look into his eyes at just the right moment. The tiniest eye movements and pained expressions sustained the hope that he was a good guy. Cheadle's face can express more in a couple of seconds than many actors can in a monologue.

It seems that the title could have been less descriptive. I was dwelling on the "traitor" concept and on whose side he was, rather than watching the film and then realizing it was about a traitor. Again, I just didn't want Don Cheadle to let me down and go to the dark side.

Based on the limited knowledge I have of extremists, mostly gleaned from films, the supporting actors portrayed their roles to a tee. The FBI agents were as hard-nosed as any I've seen, and it's always nice to see Jeff Daniels in anything.

Steve Martin wrote the story - is there no end to this man's talent?

Movie Review: An exciting end to a suspenseful storyline
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This was a suspenseful thriller with so many twists and turns you had to keep watching so you wouldn't get lost ... but the watching was well worth it. The end was perhaps one of the best and least suspected endings you could imagine. It was well acted and fit nicely into current world events. It demonstrated what heroes we have in our covert operations and some of the things they are willing to do for their country. At the same time, you have feelings that the entire storyline could be heading in another direction.... you sometimes think the hero is a villian, and then, just when you see what's going on, everything seems to change. All hope seems to be lost, and the hero seems to be doomed. At that point you just wonder how many innocent people he will take with him... how far will he go to seemingly protect himself. With hundreds of lives on the line you find yourself sitting on the edge of your chair waiting for the end to reveal itself... and that final twist is what makes this a very nice experience to watch. I highly recommend this for several reasons... the excitement, the action, the many twists, and mostly the ending.... I liked this DVD!!!!

Movie Review: Why Am I Watching This?
Summary: 5 Stars

I couldn't remember what the movie was about, but I knew I wanted to see it because Don Cheadle was in it, and I recall seeing the preview for it a month or so ago. But the first hour of the movie had me struggling. All I kept thinking was, "Why did I pay my good money to see this terrible movie? I don't WANT to root for terrorists and I don't want to root for suicide bombers and why did Cheadle try out for this movie?" I'm not the type to wave an American flag or walk around preaching about patriotism, but the first hour was so uncomfortable to me watching terrorists plan to kill innocent people justifying it with an eye-for-an-eye and religion. But then the hump over that hour came in, and I started smiling. Suddenly I remembered why Cheadle is a genius, why this movie was going the way it did, and I can't say anymore about it besides: be patient, listen closely, and I loved this movie. Bravo!

Cons: There was a scene where Cheadle had a tattoo on his right shoulder, and I was squinting at the screen to see it, but in the next scene, he didn't have it. I don't know if the make-up crew decided it needed to be hidden or was nobody supposed to see that or what, but the tattoo came up missing for some odd reason, and I'm not quite sure why.

Movie Review: Taut
Summary: 5 Stars

In an interview about his starring role in Traitor, Don Cheadle was asked
"And you learned Arabic for the job?" He could have said something to the effect that it was part of the role or it wasn't easy, implying that he did speak Arabic. Instead, he said that he only learned the words that he spoke in the film and that's "a much different notion than learning the language."

I think this film has that kind of honesty. It strikes a balanced view of the War on Terror. It makes it clear that our enemy is dangerous, formidable, committed, and sophisticated. Understanding an enemy in war not only helps us win the war; more importantly, such understanding may avert the war in the first place.

The film also looks at the mindset of devout Muslims who do not support terrorism.

I would not dream of spoiling this movie. It's just too compelling. The suspense is taut, indeed, and there are surprising plot turns that any hints might ruin. Suffice it to say that Cheadle plays Samir Horn, a former U.S. Army Special Forces Staff Sergeant who has developed ties to Islamic terrorists. He is pursued in diverse locations around the world by two FBI agents. The supporting cast is great. Nary a dull moment. Highly recommended.
