Movie Reviews of Training Day (Snapcase Packaging)

Movie Review: Denzel did so very well....
Summary: 5 Stars

I watched this DVD for the 8th time the other night and I still sit here in awe. Sure, it would not have even been close to being worthy of five stars if it wasn't for the stellar performance by Denzel Washington. Two stars could have easily been taken away due to the fact that this storyline has been rehashed in several other films. But, his performance!! D@mn!! Very few actors can do a complete flip flop in character like Denzel has done in the movie. In the past he has played nothing other than a calm, cool and collective character. For anyone to say that he wasnt worthy of the oscar that he won for best actor needs to check themselves. Who should have won then? Russell Crowe for Beautiful Mind? The book made that movie. In that movie, Crowe played the same expressionless pasty faced character that he always plays.... just add some mumbling and fumbling in and you have Dr. Nash. Sure, Russell is a good actor but we have yet to see him take a role that will show us exactly how versatile his acting ablilities are.

Movie Review: A one Man mission
Summary: 5 Stars

Washington is wonderful. He plays a thoughtful and intriguing narcotics office in Alonzo, who is the lead of an elite narcotics team. Ethan Hawke plays a newbie police officer in Hoyt, training to be a narcotics officer. He has one day to prove himself to Alonzo. Hoyt starts his day getting ready to make an impression but Alonzo is the one who is about to show Hoyt what it's all about. On his first trip with Alonzo, Hoyt doubts everything Alonzo throws at him realizing how wrong it is. But Alonzo finds a way to convince Hoyt how everything he does is for a reason and how different the streets really are. He teaches Hoyt and walks along the line of justice. But as things start to unfold Alonzo walks along that line and takes Hoyt with him. When Hoyt realizes what Alonzo is teaching him Is not justice but criminal. And as things start to get hot and heavy Hoyt realizes that what he has been through was less a test and more a set-up. This DVD is an action-packed movie with a brilliant cast and soundtrack.

Movie Review: Refreshingly REAL!
Summary: 5 Stars

I grew up in Los Angeles, and my sons' father is from South Central. I TRULY appreciated the fact that for the first time ever, the streets were portrayed to the TRUEST form. People have stigma's about the "jungle" or any rough area of LA, but truth be told, ghetto's DO have morals and a high respect. I LOVED the scene where Denzel was in the street at the end, and the people took the Ethans side. Ethan had heart, and was a good and they supported and backed him for that. THAT is a true portrayal of what it is really like. Where Denzel set up his friend and shot him after years...THAT shows how shysty people can be, and that you cant trust people who have anything at all to gain from you. It also shows people that the police in LA or places like NY are more corupt than any criminal. Dont let anyone tell you different. Of course there should be an exception to the rule. As a blonde haired blue eyed caucasion, Id feel safer in the ghetto's in Los Angeles than in the hands of the police.

Movie Review: Strong performances by the two leads makes this film works.
Summary: 5 Stars

When a narc Rookie Cop (Ethan Hawke in a Oscar Nominated Role) starts his first day with his first partner (Oscar-Winner:Danzel Washington). But as soon the young Rookie realize that his first day with his first partner is a Corrupted Detective, who doesn`t let no one gets in his way. The rookie has to play along with him to survive his horrific first day.

This film has a familiar plot line but thanks to Washington`s Charged Oscar-Winning Peformance, including a fine one by Hawke is Strong also. DVD`s has an strong anamorphic Widescreen (2.35:1) transfer and an fine Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. DVD`s Extras are:an good Commentary Track by the Director, Two Music Videos, Deleted Scenes, Alternate Ending and More. The Top-Notch direction by Antoine Fuqua (The Replacement Killers, Bait, Tears of the Sun), His best work to date as a Director and Screenwriter:David Ayer (The Fast and the Furious, U-571, Dark Blue) wrote a terrific film. Don`t miss this Well-Made Thriller. Panavision. Grade:A.

Movie Review: Denzel outdoes himself once again...
Summary: 5 Stars

Denzel Washington truly delivers a stunning performance as a corrupted narcotics police officer who has to show Ethan Hawke the ropes of making it in the drugs department. Washington is simply sublime as the supposedly all-knowing police officer who thinks he has the whole neighbourhood under his thumb when he doesn't. However, I think where this film surpasses others of its genre is Hawke's decent performance that complements Washington's. He plays the shy and introverted policeman in a such a way that the viewer can't help but hoping that Washington's character will not betray him but what you see is not what you get in the case of 'Training Day'.

I loved this DVD because it had many great extra features such as the music video and the fact that the film was subtitled in many varied languages. I think it is important for film distributors to know that while English is the dominant language in the world, other people who speak different languages want to enjoy gems like Training Day.
