Movie Reviews of Top Secret!Movie Review: There is sauerkraut in my liederhosen Summary: 5 Stars
I am shocked to see so many regarding this movie so high. I thought for the general public, it was too slapstick and crude. To me, it is one of, if not the funniest comedies i've ever seen. This is one of the only movies where I laugh out loud when i'm alone. This movie pulls no punches. It is absolutely silly and the characters are'nt afraid to say it. Who can forget the hero's: Escargot, Souffle, Detante, Avant Guard, Croissant, De ja Vu, Latrine, Chevalier, and Chocolate Mousse to name a few? A man who get's killed for dog biscuits? A manager who get's impaled upon a large mechanical device? A spy who survives in a compacted car? An unbreakable window at the Potato Farm? Yes folks, it all happens and more. If you enjoyed the Zucker brothers films, then you'll enjoy Top Secret. One of the pioneer movies that changed the face of comedy.
Movie Review: Top Secret! Summary: 5 Stars
Top Secret!~ Jim Abrahams is a great movie but if people born after the fall of the Berlin Wall will not enjoy it as much. Being a child of the 70's I can clearly remember the cold war and always wondering what was hidden in the enemies camp. This is a great parody of cold war spy movies with witty dialog and a story line that is quite well written. Val Kilmer is doing a quite a good job and is a much better actor then I thought possible, and Omar Shariff is also doing a bang up job in the little role that he has. Val Kilmer plays Nick Jones who is supposed to be a parody of Elvis and all the less then stellar movies that he starred in. There are so many classic scenes in this movie, but if I have to pick one then then I pick the restaurant scene or the over the top prison scene. I would highly recommend this movie without a doubt. I definitely give it 5 out 5 stars.
Movie Review: Skeet Surfin' ! Summary: 5 Stars
Wonderful satire of Elvis Presley and early 1960's teen movies and 1940's noir/war/espionage movies, and, other movies (They even threw The Wizard of Oz in there!). I have always wanted to sing and perform "Skeet Surfin'" with one of my bands! Saw this when it first came out in 1984. For some reason I was the only person in the theater laughing! I had not seen "Airplane!" or any other films by these guys, so I thought that it was an extremely original style of comedic film making. Val Kilmer at the time was basically an unknown actor. He is excellent in this, and so are all of the other actors and actresses. Anyway, I loved it then and I love it now. I like "Top Secret!" even better than Airplane!, Hot Shots, The Naked Gun, etc., but I really like all of those movies also.......
Movie Review: You've Got To Hand It To The Germans - They Make Great Cars! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a funny, funny movie. I'm glad Paramount has taken the time to give the Zuckers' series of silly movies the love they truly deserve on DVD. Airplane! and The Naked Gun both have had running group commentary with the Zuckers and others involved with the respective productions, and Top Secret! looks to be no different. This DVD will include deleted scenes which I hope will include the rare "apple grenade" gag in the castle dungeon with Dr. Flamont. And I eagerly await the Zuckers' technical explanations of some of the sight gags such as the falling NAZI who explodes like so much porcelain. Or my favorite being the, uhm... something-something Intruder. You'll know it when you see it. Oh, and as for the Ford Pinto gag ("Ding... BOOM!"); don't worry, I got it.
Movie Review: A very clever "silly movie" Summary: 5 Stars
Besides being a little dated, this ecclectic comedy mixes spoofs, satire and every possible form of visual humour and adds up to a hilarious film that bases its strength in never letting the viewer rest. Some visual gags are place in the background and need repeated views to be found, and enjoyed (like a statue shaped as a pigeon where humans stand on). One example of the wacky sense of humour of this film is that the scene where Hillary and Nick go into the Swedish bookstore was staged, shot and then run backwards to make the dialog sound sweedish. If you like movies like Airplane and Naked guns series you will have a little feast with this less known movie. Watch for a young Val Kilmer in the leading role and a great cameo by Omar Shariff.
