Movie Reviews of Top Gun [HD DVD]Movie Review: Really, how can you go wrong? Summary: 4 Stars
Possibly one of the best action movies of all time, you really can't go wrong with it, but that's true of the movie in any format. As for the HD-DVD format, this is a bare-bones DVD, but in my view that's fine. I want to watch the movie, I don't want to see all the behind the scenes stuff, hear what the director was thinking and look at still pictures from the set, but if that's what you're looking for, then you won't find it here.
The remaster to HD seems to have been quite good, but remember, this was filmed in the 80s, so don't expect to see the same level of clarity you'll get from something filmed on an HD pro camera today. Still, definately a cut above the non-HD format and well worth the purchase.
Movie Review: Almost a 5 star, almost. Summary: 4 Stars
I grew up with Top Gun being one of the best movies so when it came out in HD DVD it was a must buy. One word of warning is not all the scenes are in HD...
All the productions shots are HD but the canned footage of the carrier at sea are not in HD. So when you see fighters land and take off and you see real footage from the carrier deck it is in normal definition. To bad they could not get HD from the military or did not take quality video when it was shot on the carrier.
Other than this it is a good purchase, but still disappointed in the non-HD scenes.

Movie Review: A 21 year old flick that looks great today! Summary: 4 Stars
This picture looks absolutely stunning on HD DVD. Close-ups are extremely sharp. Colors looks much more bold then on the standard definition dvd release. I only have a 720P capable set, so I can only imagine how it would look on a 1080P set. Trust me when I tell you that the DTS soundtrack sounds better then the Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. if your receiver can decode DTS, its a must to fully enjoy the sounds of this flick. The only reason im not giving this release a full five stars is that there are no special features whatsoever. I have to say that was a little disapointing. Definitely worth the $20 though!
Movie Review: "Talk to me Goose," indeed. Summary: 4 Stars
A great movie all around, finally being available in High Definition DVD is a welcome addition to any expanding HD library!
In my opinion this movie still does NOT need to be remastered. 20 years and it still stands up to the technologically enhanced movies of today. Bravo!
As it is with many newly released high definition titles, fanboys take note: GET OVER IT with the "this should be on Blu-Ray (or HD-DVD in other cases), too" whining! Be like me and many others - go format neutral and love every minute of it!
Movie Review: Great aerial scenes Summary: 4 Stars
This movie about a young pilot who does not like authority and needs to clear his father's name as being reckless, works very well.
It is also exciting to watch with some breathtaking aerial scenes.
Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis head a cast of talented actors, including, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards and Tom Skerritt.
Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr. wrote a fast paced and intriguing screenplay based on a magazine article by Ehud Yonay
Tony Scott directs with verve and a clear vision.
