Movie Reviews of Tomorrow Never DiesMovie Review: A great Bond with lots of action, as usual Summary: 5 Stars
Although there is only one bedroom scene with a near naked woman, and that a gratuitous scene unrelated to the drama, this 1997 two and a half hour Bond is excellent. A megalomaniac, megarich newspaper, magazine, and TV fanatic decides to start a war between Britain and China, not the US, so that he can sell more newspapers and magazines, and get more TV viewers. There is lots of action.
The story starts with 007 rushing to get out of an area about to be bombed by a missle. He makes it in seconds by escaping on a plane with an enemy soldier behind him trying to choke him to death. The fanatic has an invisible ship. He controls a satellite. He has his people torpedo a British ship while leading the world to think it was done by the Chinese. He shoots down Chinese planes making it appear that it was done by the British. The two countries decide to go to war. Bond is given 48 hours to prove that the British and Chinese were not involved.
Bond had and has a sexual relationship with the fanatic's wife and starts one with a Chinese secret agent who was sent, like him, to discover the truth. The latter two have many adventures together. For example, they are handcuffed by the enemy, escape on a motorcycle, drive while handcuffed, evade a helcopter by remarkable ways, and save each other - mostly Bond saving the female - on several occasions.
Summary of Tomorrow Never DiesPierce Brosnan leaps into action as Agent 007 in this spectacular thrill ride of death-defying stunts and amazing high-tech gadgets. In the most electrifying Bond film yet, the unstoppable action hero must prevent a tremendous disaster ripped from tomorrowÃ"â??s headlines. Someone is pitting the worldÃ"â??s superpowers against each other Ã"â?" and only James Bond can stop it. When a British warship is mysteriously destroyed in Chinese waters, the world teeters on the brink of WWIII Ã"â?" until 007 zeros in on the true criminal mastermind. BondÃ"â??s do-or-die mission takes him to Elliot Carver (Jonathan Pryce), a powerful industrialist who manipulates world events as easily as he changes headlines from his global media empire. After soliciting help from CarverÃ"â??s sexy wife, Paris (Teri Hatcher), Bond joins forces with a stunning yet lethal Chinese agent, Wai Lin (Michelle Yeoh), in a series of explosive chases, brutal confrontations and breathtaking escapes as they race to stop the presses on CarverÃ"â??s next planned news story: global pandemonium! With powerhouse action sequences, including a wild motorcycle pursuit through (and over!) Saigon, Tomorrow Never Dies is a thrilling action-adventure Ã"â??that roars from start to finish with the throttle wide open (Gene Shalit, NBC-TV)!
