Movie Reviews of Tom Clancy's Netforce

Movie Review: Great With Knowledge from th book
Summary: 3 Stars

Ok, Some people say this is the worst thing Clancy ever put his name to, and their probaly right. I suggest that before viewing this movie read the corresponding book, to see how the charcters do develop and the plot unfolds. As for the movie everything is rushed and inappreciated, but since it carries the name Clancy you can almost be assured that whatever is the movie or book has some bearing and isn't complete rubbish

Movie Review: Boring
Summary: 3 Stars

The most boring movie that I've ever watched. It was all that I could do to stay awake. The actors are very good including Bakula, Kristoffersen, Dennehy and Going. The screenplay is just plain uninteresting. Thankfully the talented and beautiful Joanna Going kept my eyes open. Otherwise this is a snooze fest.

Movie Review: I enjoyed this mini series and hope there will be more
Summary: 3 Stars

I must confess that I enjoyed this despite the fact it has the worst side break I've ever seen. I hope this is only the first of a series.

Movie Review: Weak Effort.
Summary: 2 Stars

I, like many others, have been drawn to Clancy books since reading "The Hunt for Red October." However, I've been cautious to stay away from books called, "Tom Clancy's ______." Despite having some Clancyesque plot lines and subject matter, these books never quite capture the intracies or intelligence of his other works, not to mention that most of these books were not written by Clancy. You can almost describe them as Clancy-lite.

When I first saw NetForce at HMV, a little voice inside me kept screaming caveats, but I was clearly too deaf to listen. I actually paid FULL price for NetForce rather than order it from Buy.com.

I should have listened to myself. This film is aweful. Scott Bakula is barely competent, but even so he does not seem to move beyond his Sam Beckett character from Quantum Leap. Rhodes Scholar Kris Kristofferson is actually good, although the absurdity of his character transcends belief. Everyone else, Brian Dennehy included, is relatively nondescript and blend seemlessly into the bland background. A few token scenic shots of Washington, DC kept me awake, but in whole this film is to be avoided.

It is even more sad that Clancy would even allow his name to be associated with this project. To think that the same man who brought us "Hunt for Red October" can be reduced to "NetForce."

Movie Review: Not All that Special
Summary: 2 Stars

If you've read the book or books, and saw this movie, you know this is mocking the brilliance of Tom Clancy. This choppy, made-for-TV film has terrible dialogue, ludicrous conversations, and an awful storyline that barely goes with the book.

You probably know screenplay is almost everything, and a poor one makes a film terrible, especially if the screenwriter isn't good in the genre of films he's writing. That was Lionel Chetwynd, who wrote the teleplay. He had previously written countless documentries, and Net Force was his first theatrical film.

On a strong point, the acting is fantastic. Scott Bakula has a great performance as Alex Michaels, Kris Kristofferson delivers once again, and Brian Dennehy makes a good effort. Little known actor Paul Hewitt is wonderful playing the young computer wiz, Jay Gridley.

Bottom Line: The acting is good, but screenplays kill and this one doesn't deliver. Net Force wouldn't be my first choice for viewing pleasure.
