Movie Reviews of Todd Rundgren - Liars LiveMovie Review: Give some up for the drummer! Summary: 5 Stars
The most recent reviews have done fairly well in describing the content, but they're neglecting one key element that makes this set worth paying 13 bucks for - and that's the drummer, Prairie Prince. One of the most precise, powerful, and stylish drummers of our time, Prince was one of the best parts of the Tubes (which is where, you may know, he hooked up with Rundgren). It's nothing short of a joy to watch him hammer out brilliant fills during this version of the Tubes/Rundgren collaboration "Feel It." That plus Prairie in the Pope outfit alone makes the disc for me - but the rest of the band is in excellent form. The age-old Rundgren ego shows its fairly aging stuff here, but he still makes innovative and quality stuff. Hell, 13 bucks is a bargain for this show.
Movie Review: With a Passion Summary: 5 Stars
Along with some of my fellow reviewers, and along with those who were in attendance, this DVD will stay with me for a long long time. It was so refreshing to see Todd back in form and with total passion. For the past few years I thought he might have given touring and recording a back seat to other ventures. This DVD and performance by not only him, but Kasim, Jesse, John, and Prairie was spectacular. Nostalgia aside, these guys are good, really good ...If I weren't a fan, I would not be disappointed with purchasing this DVD. Some people I have shared this DVD with who only knew of Todd from "radio" play, were blown away. Knowing and following this performer since 1975, so was I. BUY IT !!!!!
Movie Review: Todd & the Boys are Back in Fine Form Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this show at House of Blues in Chicago - by the middle of the show, I knew Liars was a classic. This is really some of his best stuff ever. These guys really rock it, it's a blast seeing Todd play with Kasim, Prairie Price, Jesse, and John again. I am very nervous when Todd sings Liar, I think he might actually explode. Todd singing Liar should be required viewing for every American voter! This is a must have for any Todd fan. I can't believe how amazing he is at age 56! He looks fantastic. I know it's an artistic thing but I didn't like the band in the cages - I'd rather have them all up front so I can see them. Anyway, this is a must have for your collection!
Movie Review: As Great As Ever Summary: 5 Stars
I was lucky enough to see Todd's Liar's show when it came to Philly. I thoroughly enjoyed it and now it's great to have a copy of it. The band is solid throughout and Todd is in great form. If you're a Todd fan who's lost track of him over the years, don't think for a moment that just because his newer stuff doesn't get airplay, that he's lost his edge. Nothing could be further from the truth. The bulk of the material from this DVD is from his Liars CD, a CD packed with some of the best stuff he's ever done. This guy can write a hook! Do yourself a favor and get this DVD. You won't be sorry. Oh, and the extras, especially the footage from Japan, are great too!
Movie Review: WOW - TODD AMAZES AGAIN Summary: 5 Stars
This DVD is excellent!!Superb through out!! Lighting is incredible-camera shots-EVERYTHING!! The MOST AMAZING thing is that here is an artist with many top 10 hits from the 70s+80s, and is still relevant. Not in a "career retrospective" way like other bands active in that era that are still around, but Todd does something COMPLETELY NEW. It is ironic that many of the bands Todd produced tour with greatest hits shows, but this guy creates all new music unlike what he did before. This killer DVD captures a creative burst from a man that is A TRUE STAR!!
