This film is perhaps one of my favorites of all time. It is nothing short of beautiful, tragic, inspiring and extremely involving. If you are looking to add a classic to your foregn film collection, this picture is indispensible. To Live is Zheng Yimou's epic of life in 20th century China. A couple live through the last days of warlord rule through the days of Chiang Kai Shek and ultimately Mao Zedong and communism. It is a sad and trying life with many trials and tribulations. I can't state strongly enough how wonderful this movie is. Well made and beautiful to look at.Movie Review: Can I give it six stars?

This movie will take you through every emotion available to you including fear, sadness, panic and joy. I shipped a copy to a friend in China (where it is banned).I can just picture it being hidden in a basket of rice....
