Movie Review: "There are three of them, and Alleline..."

No doubt, maybe the best translation from novel to film ever done--on par with Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett), The Foresyte Saga, and I Claudius. This BBC masterpiece is litered with British super-talent. Imagine matching various characters in literature to their most perfectly suited actors, and then sticking them in a six hour feast-for-the-senses. Combine this with fantastic directing, and the result is a one of a kind dramatic thriller. If you want insight into the realities of cold war espionage, read Carre's novels. If not, better stick with Hollywood's pathetic interpretation.Movie Review: The classic George Smiley "film"

when available.A close second to this one. Lots of suspense here,
in a quiet talky way. Note Le Carre's comments on how Guinness
can even act with his back,and why the Honourable Schoolboy
wasn't filmed .The other spy-Smiley book Call for the Dead was
filmed as a Deadly Affair with James Mason.

Save yourself a few bucks and buy the 2 disc version from the U.K.The picture quality is relatively good and the movie is all there.I own a Phillips dvp642 dvd player and it plays everything that I throw at it. How this cheap little player $89.00 at wal Mart
is able to convert a pal dvd to be able to play on an ntsc tv I don't know,but it does.It also will play region 2 disc without a problem.
I have ordered many region 2/PAL discs from Amazon U.K because they are not available in Canada or the U.s.and they have all
played perfectly.
Movie Review: Simply the Best Spy Movie Ever Made.

This movie is simply the best spy movie ever made. Alec Guinness is simply fantastic and is 'George Smiley'. The acting is tremendous and the story is complex, complicated and fascinating. The story is also based on actual events about a mole hunt within the British intelligence agency. All of the performances are top notch and first rate. The characters are rich and well developed. This is a movie about wits, intelligence, cat and mouse and the dirty underbelly that is the spy game.
Again, this is the greatest spy movie ever put on film.
Movie Review: The Real Cold War? US vrs Brit TV (and boy are we losing)

Tinker Tailor, Smiley's People, Prime Suspect, The Singing Detective, The Office, Elizabeth R, Six Wives of Henry the Eighth, House of Cards ..... All brilliant television shows, and oh boy! do the Brits know how to do intelligent TV well. By comparison, US television looks like garbage - because it is! Outside of the shows on cable like Sopranos and Six Feet Under, quality US television has been in steady decline for years (not to mention its IQ quotient). What the heck is our problem?
