Movie Review: Time After Time Again!
Summary: 4 Stars
have always loved Time Travel as a topic. I thus naturally enjoy Time Travel movies and books, even if they don't always make sense. This movie did make more sense that the Average turnaround Time Travel adventure, and managed to capture H. G. Wells's Socialism and quaint Victorian attitude quiet well. Not perfectly of course but they did seem to want you to like Wells and how he was in real life may offend Modern Viewers, even in 1974.
The story was a bit Contrived, featuring Jack the Ripper, who just-so-happens to be friends with H. G. Wells, who Just-So-Happens to have a Convenient Time Machine which Just-So-Happens to need a Key to hold it in the time it visits which Wells keeps on him. It also Just-So-Happens that the Police find the Ripper in Wells's estate and he uses the Machine, minus the needed Key to lock it, to get away. Its also a bit contrived that he somehow manages to end up in California even though the Machine vanished from London and could not traverse space.
However, if you get past all of this, it's a fun ride. The performances from McDowell and David Werner are especially great, and they manage to capture the Victorian personality traits they are suppose to hold very, very well. You'd think they were form the 19th Century personally!
The Love Story is a bit dodgy but manages to suck you in too, and the Adventure keeps your attention to the end.
I don't want to drop Spoilers ( not that other reviewers haven't already) so I won't be much more thorough than this, suffice to say if you are a Time Travel Enthusiast you will like this Movie. Those who like Romance are likely to like it. Its also a good afternoon time killer (Pun not intended; well almost not intended) for those how just want a nice straight forward adventure.
Movie Review: Very well done H.G. Wells

Time After Time is one of those movies you almost have to watch a 2nd and 3rd time to appreciate. First time thru while interesting, it seemed to drag a bit in the middle but was still worth watching. 2nd and subsequent viewings created a slightly different understanding of the events. Plot is well covered by other reviewers so my focus is on the presentation. Both McDowell and Steenburgen do an excellent job coming across as real people. Warner (plays Jack the Ripper) has a much smaller part than I would have expected, but he too plays the ripper very well. They avoided many cliche opportunities that seem to creep into other Jack the Ripper, or H.G. Wells story adaptations. This movie is a bit of a sleeper in that it has never really been recognized for it's creativity, imagination, and yet fairly accurate account of what H.G. Wells might really have experienced in time travel. For Sci Fi buffs, H.G. Wells fans, and any one who would like an intriguing rainy afternoon movie to just sink into and enjoy.Movie Review: ALTERED FROM THE ORIGINAL-WHY?

The dvd I just purchased (2011) was altered from the original I saw years ago, but still enjoyable. One of the most entertaining parts of this movie was changed for the dvd- I wonder why? In the original, when H.G. was traveling through time, the vantage point from his chair changed showing lady's fashions in a store window (Macy's?) changing as he went through the decades. Also it showed what happened to his home over the decades (it was torn down), That part of the movie was quite entertaining and a lot more interesting than the flashing lights and special effects and no views on the current version.Movie Review: Time After Time- Older favorite movie

This has been one of my favorite movies and I was happy to see it available on DVD. It features two of my favorite actors early in their careers, Mary Steenburgen and Malcolm McDowell. The movie also blends a few of the types of stories I like- SciFi, action, and crime. I found it still very enjoyable even
after all these years. Highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet,and for those who remember it when it was first released.

My wife is a nut about Time travel. A long time ago we saw "Time After Time" and we both loved it. Ever since, because we couldn't buy the movie at the time, it became a fond memory. However, the name of the movie was lost. Recently, we came across the movie and immediately ordered it. The acting is great and the plot is unique.
