Movie Reviews of ThunderheartMovie Review: One of the great movies...of all time. Summary: 5 Stars
This happens to be my favorite movie. I watch at least 3 new movies a week since my fiancee and I are movie junkies, and I always come back to Thunderheart as my favorite. This is one of the Val Kilmer movies that makes you realize that he is a great actor, he's just been cast in some bad movies. Thunderheart obviously isn't one of these. Plus you add Sam Shepard, a great playwright who doesn't act much but is ALWAYS in good movies. Also in this is Grahamn Greene, a great Native American actor as seen in the Green Mile, Dances With Wolves, etc. The whole cast makes this into a gritty, yet powerful murder/mystery.
Movie Review: great movie, great comedy Summary: 5 Stars
If you understand something about Lakota culture you'll get more out of this movie. I saw the preview in South Dakota when it came out.Funny then and still funny! It deals with the serious issues that occured and led to Wounded Knee in '73 and Ted Thin Elk portrays a wicasi wacon similar to Grandfather Frank (Teton) and does a good job. If you can find someone to translate what Greene says you'll get a whole lot more out of this film- the insults are great! The issues are very serious but the plot is well.........too Hollywood. It's fun to watch but doesn't do the issues justice.
Movie Review: Spiritual experience Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is a must-see. Not only is it hard hitting and realistic, it has the best performances of both Graham Greene and Val Kilmer, probably of their careers. As difficult as it is to watch, (particularly knowing that it's truthful), it ends in hope.
It's a movie that finds me discovering new things to appreciate and noticing nuances after repeated viewings.
For anyone not only interested in history and Native American traditions and lore, but the American judicial system, such as it is, and the human condition.
Movie Review: Wonderful mystery and great depiction of Sioux culture Summary: 5 Stars
Graham Greene gives his best performance since "Dances With Wolves" and Val Kilmer is stunning as a young FBI agent who's doing his best to deny his own Indian heritage in this murder mystery on the Lakota reservation. Viewers get wonderful insight into Lakota culture and a glimpse of what has been lost. The investigation into the deaths of FBI agents and the government coverup is reminiscent of actual events, and a truthful portrayal of just how badly the Native Americans have been treated by a callous federal government. Highly recommend.
Movie Review: Oh my god... Summary: 5 Stars
This movie was incredible. Never had a movie made me jump up and cheer so much, and be angry at what happened at the Oglala Rez than this..thunderheart. There are scenes here in this movie that made me cry so much in anguish and get so emotional,to think, "this is our gov't?"How can they let this happen? Self-discovery, and awesome cinematography, along with characters you can feel make this a far better movie than Dances With Wolves, and i can't believe i've said that. Val Kilmer's greatest work.A masterpiece.
