Movie Reviews of Three O'Clock HighMovie Review: Oh those zany 80's Summary: 5 Stars
I remember seeing this in 1987 at the theater. It was kind of embarrassing because there were like only ten people in there. If you're looking for the zaniness of Ferris Bueller, this is right up your alley. Jerry Mitchell has to fight a school bully at three o'clock. He tries to pay off a huge jock to protect him, which ends up being film history's largest domino demonstration. He tries to get detention, but just ends up turning on his English teacher. Throw in a bratty little sister, a new age girlfriend, the 'perfect girl' and a nerd sidekick, and you got yourself an hour and a half of decent entertainment. Hey we all had those butterflies in our stomach when we knew we had a fight set for after school, it's all apart of growing up. It just sucked when it happened first thing in the morning, so you had to dwell on it all day. So there's a little Jerry in all of us. Of course those were the 80's. For those too young to remember, teenagers would settle their differences with their fists, not guns. Hard to believe but it's true. Notice how at the end of the movie, the whole school looks like the Roman Collusium or a scene out of Mad Max. Outrageous.
Movie Review: One of the coolest movies ever Summary: 5 Stars
This is not your normal high school flick. When the somewhat geeky, but still cool star of the movie lights up a cigarette in class and almost takes the teacher down to the floor for some lovin, you know this one is going to be different.
So everything is just fine and dandy for Jerry Mitchell. He is doing good in school and has a nice girlfriend, but he accidentally gets scheduled to fight the new kid, Buddy. We have all heard those stories about the new kid beating up his teacher at his last school or even killing somebody, but Richard Tyson playing Buddy makes you actually helieve he could have done something that bad.
So Jerry is obviously not going to fight him and hires a jock to take him out. This library scene will stick in my memory forever along with many other parts in this movie. I can't tell you anything more from there, but you will find out how great of a movie it is. I give it a 4.5/5.
So will Jerry weasel his way out of this like he had been trying to do the whole day at school or will he have to fight him? I promise you will not be dissapointed.
Movie Review: One Great Comedy Summary: 5 Stars
Unfortunately, this film was buried under a mountain of non-promotional advertising b/c of Director Philip Joanau's (sp?) refusal to change its name from THREE O'CLOCK HIGH to BELLS RING AT THREE. The film production company felt the drug connotation of "getting high after school" was not the right message to send and ignored the obvious comparisons in the title to another stellar film about facing your greatest confrontation alone, HIGH NOON. Consequently, this film didn't have a chance at the box office. However, don't let such a little thing as a title fool you. THREE O'CLOCK HIGH is a wild energetic ride. Casey Siemasko (sp) does a brilliant job as the young kinda/sorta nerd upstart who finds himself watching the clock all day until three p.m. ... when circumstances of fate are requiring him to face-off with the brutish new-kid-in-school twice his size. This film is as much fun as John Hughes 'high school' films, but it never found an audience as it was simply never promoted. Accept it for what it's worth, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Movie Review: One of my top ten 80s movies, and my number one favourite 80s teen movie ! Summary: 5 Stars
Hi..
I remember watching three o'clock high more than 15 years back on TV, i immediatley got hooked and bought the movie on video, i must have watched it 4 or 5 times and i never got bored of it, and i started replacing all my old videos with DVDs, so i got this excellent movie and just finished watching it again this time but on DVD, and wow this movie is very good and remains enjoyable still today as it did few years back, i must say that this is one of my top ten favourite 80s movies and my number one 80s teen movie.
the plot is simple but interesting about the school nerd who falls in trouble with school bully who forces him for a fight at 3 o'clock, and throughout the movie we see how the nerd tries getting out of the fight.
Acting is very good and the movie is fast paced and never drags or gets boring at any time, just excellent.
My advice, if you haven't seen it, you go ahead and buy this movie because its worth every penny, just a great classic !!
Movie Review: If you like the 80's and movies like the Breakfast Club..... Summary: 5 Stars
...then Three O'Clock High is for you. I have an old VHS copy that I taped off of Starz or Encore many years ago and I haven't seen it on any of the movie channels for quite some time. Needless to say, my old VHS copy is worn out and I've gone in search for the DVD and I've found it! I've watched this movie countless times as I've introduced it to my friends who hadn't saw it or even heard of it before I turned them on to it. Everyone I've shown the movie to has liked it. Many of the other reviews do a good job of describing who's in it and what the story is about. It's a movie I think a lot of people can relate to with their own experiences of high school. It'll become one of those movies that you watch while you're not so sober too! Enjoy.
