Movie Reviews of Three O'Clock High

Movie Review: school bullies
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow, watching Three O'Clock High brought back STRONG memories of my years in high school. All that tension being felt as I approached the front doors of the school every single morning, the constant being picked on that took place, all the sweating and waiting until the end of the school day when the eventual fight was to end the daily conflicts and tormenting...

How I miss being a bully! All that intense fear I would create deep inside those nerds was just plain *awesome* (kidding).

All joking aside, there's plenty of words that were used in this film that take me back to my years of going to school in the 90's. It makes me wonder if this movie was somewhat of an influence to how the kids talked to each other back then (using words amazon definitely won't let me say- sorry, if you've watched this film, I think you know what words I'm referring to anyway).

I bet the writer who came up with this idea was someone who got picked on himself because this storyline is WAY too potentially accurate to be a coincidence. As I mention above, the main character in the film is definitely quite geeky and gets involved in a confrontation with the school buy (unintentionally) inside a bathroom. The bully is the new kid in school, who happens to have a past history of violence. He then challenges the nerd to a fight at... ding ding ding!! 3 o'clock.

The entire film is about how the nerdy kid does everything humanly possible in an attempt to get out of the fight, and all the amazing adventures he goes on,.

The acting is really good, Richard Tyson plays a VERY convincing bully (though he was several years too old for high school when he starred in this movie) and the storyline may be hauntingly familiar for some of you out there.

Don't be ashamed if you can relate to the main character either. Every school across the country -perhaps even the world- had (and continues to have) bullies and nerds similar to how this movie portrays them... well, maybe not similar to the bully who goes a little TOO insane at times, but the geek character is definitely relatable, and that's why I believe this movie was written from a nerds point of view.

A great movie that's amazingly entertaining (and familiar) from beginning to end.

Movie Review: Cool film!
Summary: 5 Stars

Jerry Mitchell(Casey Siemaszko)has been challenged to an after-school fight by rookie Buddy Revell(Richard Tyson). Their first encounter was in one of the mens' restrooms. Buddy doesn't anyone to know about his violent past. Jerry's buddy Vincent Costello studies the combination to Buddy's locker and places a switchblade in the locker in an effort to get Buddy expelled. The switchblade was about to be removed but Vincent messed up the second time opening the locker. Jerry works as a clerk in the student store and in one scene steals $450 from the cash register to give to another student friend,Craig Mattey. Craig accepted the payment and as a favor to Jerry,half-angrily warns Buddy in the library to leave Jerry alone. Craig ended up with two molars punched out and broken finger. Vincent and Jerry's sister Brie get $350 of the money back. Craig was gonna repay it all but Vincent felt Craig deserved $100 for doing the favor for Jerry. During the pep rally,Jerry unsuccessfully leaves the school campus(he is met by a tough security guard who sends him to Voytek Dolinski, the Dean of Discipline). Jerry and Buddy are sent to principal Bill O'Rourke's office for cheating on a math test. After a few attempts,Jerry finally dissuades Buddy from fighting each other. Jerry pays Buddy the $350 that was earlier recovered by Vincent and Brie. "You're the biggest sissy I ever met in my life!",Buddy tells Jerry. After some brief thinking,Jerry comes back to Buddy, demanding the money back and the fight goes on as planned. It's now 3 PM,and it's Jerry vs. Buddy. Every student surrounds the pair. Buddy destroys the camera that is videotaping the fight. He even knocks out the security guard. Brie supplies Jerry with brass knuckles and Jerry knocks Buddy out cold with them! Everybody cheers,Jerry's girlfriend kisses him, followed by more cheers. In the final scene,it's the next school day,and everybody is talking about the Jerry vs. Buddy fight. This is where the end credits roll. This film may have been a box office disappointment but I personally enjoyed it.

Movie Review: DONT F*** THIS UP, MITCHELL !!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

dont worry mr orouke, jerry wont.

slowly but surely my favorite movies from the 80's are coming to DVD.LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN,YEAR OF THE DRAGON, AFTER HOURS, 8 MILLION WAYS TO DIE, PRISON, WEIRD SCIENCE are a few that i hope are on the way.

as for 3 oclock high, well, what can i type that hasnt already been typed? good natured, laugh a second comedy that stands up to time. poor jerry(siemeszko)thought this would be an ordinary day(good thing for our hero it isnt!). his well meaning friends give him an unwanted class project-interview the new kid. seems harmless but the new kid is psychotic Buddy Revell(tyson). big bad buddy has a history of pugilistic behavior and jerry isnt pleased.

while jerry relieves himself and ponders situation in the boys room, who pulls up next to him (hint-big bad buddy!)? jerry, not one to miss an opprotunity, decides this was a good time/place to get the interview started.

its a little cold at first and jerry is about to let it go and all seemed ok until.....HE TOUCHED HIM!!!!!! as soon as jerrys hand touch buddys leather clad arm, the tension was an 8.5 on the ricter scale. buddy freaks out and manhandles poor jerry, mashing up his sweater, breaking his watch and abusing his jeans in the urinal.

now jerry has done it! buddy needs to release the anger and the only way to do this is to fight jerry at 3 oclock, high! in between the ill fated bathroom roughup and the brawl for it all, theres romance, bribing, trips to the pricipals office, a robbery and other assorted shenanigans.

needless to say, jerry has to fight buddy. although the outcome of the fight isnt unexpected, the end of the movie is. im very surprised the director(who went on to do a concert film)didnt do more work,in any genre. this is an absolutely hysterical film that will have you laughing no matter how many times its viewed.

Movie Review: one of my all time favorite 80's teen movies!
Summary: 5 Stars

It was just one of those "same stuff, different day" type of attitudes Jerry Mitchell had when he walked into Weaver High School at 8 am. The possibility of meeting a psychotic bully never crossed his mind, that is until his teacher Miss. Phillips assigns him to complete a "welcome aboard/student interview" on the new kid at the High School...Buddy Revell. After hearing horror stories about Buddy's violent past, Jerry decides that a casual introduction with Buddy would be the best route. The confrontation sets Buddy over the edge, as he simply states that he doesn't like NOBODY knowing about him! Life after the encounter goes downhill quick, fast, and in a hurry for Jerry. Desperate to "keep his life," Jerry turns to a number of friends for advice, and even resorts to stealing the school's store money in hopes to pay off one bully to confront another bully (Buddy). Richard Tyson plays Buddy Revell, and I must say, I used to have a MAJOR CRUSH on him in this movie back in 1987! Certain scenes show just how handsome he was, like...the Hallway scene, where he is walking in a slow motion sequence, the Locker scene, when Jerry confronts Buddy, the Pep Rally scene, when he walks in during the rally and stares Jerry down, the Library scene, where he is sitting reading, the Math Class scene, when Buddy sits down by Jerry..even the Fight scene displays him as the cute bad boy type! This movie is awesome, and I am happy that I now own it. I have proudly added this dvd to my High School Reunion Collection dvd's. All in all, this movie is one of the all time greats! You will watch it continuously!

Movie Review: I can't help it, I love this movie
Summary: 5 Stars

The 80's spawned one high school teen movie after another, and John Hughes was the king of that genre. But somehow along the way among the Breakfast Clubs and the Pretty in Pinks, Three O'Clock High got overlooked. It's quite rare when I actually meet someone who's heard of this comedy gem. I had quite a lot of trouble even finding a copy of it on DVD and was going to purchase a copy here on Amazon, but finally found it at a buy/sell/trade store in Hollywood.

So anyway, while I am very happy to finally have this movie on DVD in widescreen for the first time, instead of watching it on my VCR on a recorded scratchy tape, I was a little dissapointed that there were no features whatsoever on this disc (movie reccomendations don't count, you can get plenty of those on Amazon). Further proof that not enough people know or care about this movie.

Furthermore, Casey Siemaszko, the star, the heart and soul of this movie, failed to develop as a lead actor since this movie never really got any recognition, (he had a lot of supporting roles in the late 80s such as Young Guns, Stand By Me and Back to the Future) which is a shame because he is too funny in this movie. The movie has a good cast too, even though the antagonist of the film who looks 15 years too old to be in high school, he's the perfect school bully. Not to mention this movie has the best school yard fight you'll ever see.

Please, check this one out. John Hughes isn't the only one who could make good 80's highschool movies and this is certainly one of the best ones.
