Movie Reviews of Thoroughly Modern Millie

Movie Review: CAROL CHANNING IS WONDERFUL!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

The movie is great, a terrific spoof on the 1920's,really funny and with some great songs. As for acting,Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore are SO GOOD! And Bea Lillie is,as always, brilliant. She was a comic genius.I don't see why some person complained about Jimmy Fox.He was perfect as Julie's boyfriend. And you can't compare this movie to "The Sound of Music".Two completely different kinds of film.Any perceptive person could see that. And now to answer the unfair criticism of Carol Channing.Sure, her acting was over-the-top,but the character of Muzzy IS over the top.Her singing is great, and she dances up a storm.A wonderful performance! To appreciate the artistry of Channing you must see her in person. She can enchant and hold an audience better than anyone I have ever seen on the stage. Her "Dolly" is sublime. She is one of the greats.I recommend this video to anyone who loves great fun, great songs, and smashing performances from all involved.Buy it,you won't be disappointed.

Movie Review: "So beat the drums 'cause here comes thoroughly modern Millie now!"
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the most incredibly light hearted, and beloved musicals from the golden era of movie magic. Starring an unrivaled cast of Carol Channing, Mary Tyler Moore, and Julie Andrews as the title character Millie. The movie begins with an unexpected crime, then moves to the thoroughly traditional Millie walking the streets of 1922's New York, and updating her look to the tune of the toe tapping introductory song "Thoroughly Modern Millie". The movie keeps the pace with catchy iconic songs, and unforgettable scenes, such as the elevator that requires the riders to dance, Carol Channing being shot from a cannon, and the defeat of the Chinese slave trade. The introduction of several subplots only serves to promote the main theme, "love has everything to do with it"!

Movie Review: Just another first!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have this movie on VHS and it's getting pretty worn out. This has got to be one of the best musical comedies ever made. Just take a look at the cast. You can't beat it. You have the most talented people in Hollywood in the movie and behind the scenes.I've seen the new Broadway production an it can't hold a candle to this 1967 film version. I'm a huge Broadway fan and have been in several productions myself but the Broadway version just doesn't have the same spirit as the film.I only hope that when the DVD does come out that they will keep it in it's Roadshow format. The VHS version i have has the Overture, Intermission and Exit Music but not the Entr'ce music to Act II. It's still a pretty good version and is also in 3 channel stereo. This movie is a classic, the acting is the best, the music score is terrific, costumes are beautiful. This will be a must to everyones collection. I just hope it is soon.

Movie Review: Raise your skirts and bob your hair
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen, besides "Luv" with Jack Lemmon.
Just the small lines you don't catch the first time become more visible the second, or third, or fourth, or..., the 98th time you've watched it. My roommate and his boyfriend and I would watch it 2 or 3 times a week. "Raspberries!" exclaims Muzzy, while flying with Baron von Richter up to meet Miss Dorothy, Millie, and Jimmy.
When Jimmy did the Tapioca, I couldn't stop singing it for days. It stuck in my head. When Judith yells, "Soy sauce!" that sticks in your head, especially if you eat alot of Hawaiin or Chinese foods.
Jimmy in drag is hilarious. We had to pause the movie until we stopped laughing.
You will love it.

Movie Review: My favorite movie of all time.
Summary: 5 Stars

I found the liner notes of this record when I was very young, and was enchanted at the story. Finally, one day, I saw the original movie on late night t.v. I stayed up all night to see it, It instantly became my all-time favorite movie. It was just so much fun! so silly, and so great seeing a young Mary Tyler Moore, and Carol Channing and Julie Andrews were great. I had a massive crush on James Fox and dreamed of some day meeting someone who looked like him. I loved all the wacky dance numbers. I loved the authentic details that the director had clearly gone to a great deal of trouble to produce.

I've watched it many times since then, bought screening mementos, tapes, press kits, etc. I treasure all of them.
