Movie Reviews of The Zombie Pack

Movie Review: A great price, but sadly not much else...
Summary: 2 Stars

Being a fan of such low budget classics like Zombie 2, Burial Ground, and Zombie Holocaust, I jumped at the chance to buy this three pack of Italian zombie films. I do feel that this set is a great value for the sheer amount of content it includes. However, after watching the full set it became apparent as to why these films were sold in a collection this way: No one would ever buy them otherwise! These flicks are not the "so bad their good" type, they are the "so bad...they're bad!" type. Anyway I'll examine them in a bit more detail.

Zombie 3: Created by Lucio Fulci (in part), this is the best disc of the set. Bruno Mattei stepped in for Lucio halfway through the filming of the flick, and the feel of it is VERY Bruno, not so much Lucio. The plot follows the unleashing of a chemical that can turn people into zombies. As you can guess the epidemic spreads and zombie mayhem ensues amongst a group of military recruits. The movie is pretty standard for its kind, bad acting, bad dubbing, abundant gore. But in the end Zombie 3 does not touch the incredible Zombie 2 and makes for a pretty mundane watch. I barely recommend it, and it only gets worse from here.

Zombie 4: As other reviewers mentioned this is NOT part of the Zombie franchise. The film is entitled After Death and the "Zombie" was just tacked on to lump it in with the Fulci movies. Truthfully I have nothing to say about this movie. It's the same thing as Zombie 3, only the zombies are brought about by a voodoo curse, and it's even more poorly executed. I don't recommend this movie, and the next one gets even worse.

Zombie 5: Also not part of the Fulci series, the film is called Killing Birds and it's the crown turd of the set. This film actually has nothing to do about killing birds as they only appear once or twice, but somehow it manages to incorporate the living dead into the plot...Ugh...I don't even want to talk about it any more. This movie was among the worst I've ever seen. There was NO reason to release this on DVD. Killing birds should be buried in some random storage vault in Italy and collect dust with other atrocious films of its kind, which I'm willing to bet is where it actually was before the incarnation of this set.

So there you have it. This set is a great buy, but even a horror connisseur would have to admit this is pretty lame stuff. However I do recommend Volume 2 which includes the amazing Zombie Holocaust and Burial Ground. Otherwise these discs make good coasters or frisbees. Stick it in the microwave and watch the pretty colors.
