Movie Reviews of The Young Ones: Every Stoopid EpisodeMovie Review: Silly and juvenile Summary: 5 StarsIf you like Juvenile humor. then you will like this. We use to watch this on cable back in the 80s so I knew what I was buying. It can be raunchy and gross and totally idiotic. But that is what I like about it.
Movie Review: Maybe Stoopid, but funny Summary: 4 StarsThis show was broadcast on MTV, in the 1980's.
It was hilarious for the time; however, the humor was sometimes hard to get because it was aimed at British audiences.
I got it for my son for Christmas, and he played
all three discs Christmas day.
It definitely was worth watching; despite some of the dry humor.
Movie Review: The Young Ones Summary: 5 StarsMy brother got my family started watching these when they came out on MTV back in the 80's, every Sunday night we would all get together and watch them. It was great being able to go back and watch them all again, even when they really are stupid. Thanks Amazon for letting us have those memories of getting together on Sundays way back when.
Movie Review: Kooky and EXTREMELY irreverent Summary: 4 StarsThe Young Ones is classic early-1980s British comedy, focusing in on the youth scene of the era. This DVD set has all 12 episodes - every stoopid one! It stars violent punk Vyvyan (played by Adrian Edmondson), soppy would-be poet Rick (Rik Mayall), burned out hippie Neil (Nigel Planer), and player Mike (Christopher Ryan). Every issue is covered here, from racism to the Cold War to unemployment and beyond, and all in a kooky and EXTREMELY irreverent manner.
Overall, I found this to be an extremely funny show - traipsing as it does across all sacred cows in a disturbingly surreal manner. This is Monty Python for the 80s! But, one word of warning, there is a strong risqu? theme running throughout, and watching it with your teenage daughter and her new boyfriend might prove more than a bit embarrassing.
So, if you are looking for a light-hearted, family-friendly Britcom, then just keep on walking. But, if you are looking for a dark comedy with some social commentary, then this just might be what you have been searching for!
Movie Review: Kill the hippy! Summary: 4 StarsI forgot just how much I use to get out of this show. Cartoonish in its actions sometimes, the show definitely struck a chord. I think the key to the series was that although each of the characters were gross exagerations of stereotypes they weren't so badly exagerated that you couldn't recognize them for they were.
Oddly enough, this is a show in which I don't think anyone in the viewing audience identified with any of the characters, either consciously or unconsciously. You had Neil, the useless hippy and perpetual victim and moaner, Vyvian the mindlessly-violent punk, Rik the philosophy student, poet and wannabe intellectial, and Mike the capitalist and all-round crooked guy.
You just watched this show to see which of these unlikeable characters were going to get the worst part of whatever they were involved in.
