Movie Reviews of The World's Fastest IndianMovie Review: One Great Movie From Start to Finish Summary: 5 Stars
My husband picked this movie out to watch. Initially, I thought it would be a total guy flick about motorcycles, so wasn't to interested in watching it. I ended up watching "The Fastest Indian" with him and discovered that this movie is one of the best movies that both of us had seen in a longtime!!
Anthony Hopkins does a phenomenal job playing the lead role of Burt Munro, a New Zealander, whom set the land speed record at the Bonneville salt flats in Utah on his modified Indian Scout in 1967. His speed record of 206 miles per hour still stands today, which is pretty spectacular.
"The Fastest Indian" captures the viewers attention from the start and holds it throughout the entire movie. Munro, himself, seemed to be an eccentric man with very unorthodox methods to modifying his motorcycle & this is portrayed in the movie. "The Fastest Indian" is Munro's journey, as an elderly man, to the Bonneville salt flats, where he wants to see how fast the Indian Scout will go. We, the viewer, watch his journey unfold... We see humor & drama on this journey, but mostly the story of an ordinary man living out his dream of racing on the Bonneville salt flats on a motorcycle he has worked so hard on for years.
Movie Review: Who says you are "too old"? Summary: 5 Stars
Here we have the inspiring tale of Burt Munro... the TRUE story of an elderly motorcycle-racer who set out on what he thought would be his last adventure.
Munro was an eccentric old fellow living in the quiet little town of Invercargill, New Zealand, where he was well known for his proficiency with motorcycles. Tinkering in the garage that was also his home, he customized his prized 1920 Indian Scout motorcycle. Originally having a top speed of 55 MPH, Munro modified this bike considerably. The end-result was an antique motorcycle encased in a racing-fairing, and capable of 200 MPH!
This movie chronicles Munro's trek to Bonneville Flats,Utah, in the 1960s. His quest: to set a world speed-record on his customized Indian. So, with limited funds, a heart-condition, and an optimist's minset, he sailed half-way around the world to a strange land. Despite several set-backs, Munro encountered a number of benign characters who helped him on his way.
This film portrays Munro's first trip. There's more to the story...
Munro did set his record, and actually returned to Bonneville Flats several times as an exalted and respected figure among the racing crowd.
Movie Review: The World Fastest Indian Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered 2 copies of this DVD one for myself and 1 for a friend in Australia. The reason I ordered them was because Herbert James Munro (Burt) was my Uncle and I knew him so well I was invited by his daughter to be one of his pall bearers. I know that the DVD is full of fact, the New Zealand footage was shot 120 miles from my home, I have a collection of memorabilia from 2 different books, a copy of one of his personal scrap books - he kept 4 - one for each of his 3 daughters and 1 son. I also have tee shirts and cap commemorating the launch of the film. The whole experience has been just huge not only for myself but for the 48 nieces and nephews that attended the World Premier in Invercargill of this unforgetable character of a man. We have always been proud of his achievements and congratulations are truly due to Director Roger Donaldson for this marvellous masterpiece that reflects an Uncle we are all proud of.
My only disapointment was the Discs I purchased were not in Australian or New Zealand format - we use PAL format.
All in all as long as this DVD is promoted as being an accurate relection of a Pioneering Genius it should sell very well for years to come.
Movie Review: If you have a dream, you must see this film! Summary: 5 Stars
The story is just phenomenal. Against all odds, an aged Burt Munro makes it from his little shack in New Zealand through many hurdles to speed week at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah near Wendover. Munro has basically no money, and he has been dreaming for over 25 years of showing off his fast 40+ year Indian motorcycle he modified and tinkered on which supposedly would do 200 mph. The film plays in 1967 and it's based on a true story and a story it is. It's inspiring and the cast with Anthony Hopkins as Burt Munro and all the the other supporting actors is excellent -- it's so real -- it's like an exceptional documentary and motion picture at the same time.
Sadly, aside from myself only another couple were in the theatre watching this flick. I think anyone who has a dream, either in business, or sports or whatever kind of achievement, needs to see this film -- it's encouraging, because if Munro made it, then everyone else should be able to go for it.
Aside from these impressions of this movie, the photography is also very well done and the script is great too. This motion picture deserves a full 5 stars and more if possible. A great inspiring film.
Movie Review: A very simple story superbly acted! Bravo! Summary: 5 Stars
At last Anthony Hopkins in his best performance in years! It's actually far more a five star performance than a five star movie actually, not to take any credit from the story nor the actual filmmaking of "Worlds' fastest Indidan", but it is Hopkins contribution to the movie that shines through the entire 130 minutes on the screen. Hopkins' character, this is a true story and a real person portraited here by the way, is the grandfather we all wish for. Such sympathetic and genuine human beings (also known as originals) are indeed rare to find as the man we are introduced to here. I'd like to give this man a hug!
Compared to this movie Bill Murrays' "Broken flowers" (and I'm actually a very big fan of him as well, but...) becomes embarrasing to watch. Two very unlike road-movies perhaps, but of the two; This is the real thing!
I never bother to write much about the story, so many other reviewers here have already done that for you. What's left to say is; Lean back in your sofa, poar a glass of wine, invite a good friend over or your girlfriend/boyfriend to watch this feelgood-flick with you, it's as simple as that. Enjoy!
