Movie Reviews of The Winds of War

Movie Review: Excellent view of WW11
Summary: 5 Stars

After viewing the entire Winds of War "mini-series" I was so impressed with the casting, the various locales used in the filming. This is one of the finest presentations, I have seen, of a very disturbing period of human history. Herman Wouk was meticulous in his research, and the presentation was a tremendous undertaking by the cast, crew, and directors. I would highly reccomend that every teen in America see this, lest the history be forgotten and therefore repeated.

Movie Review: Time to review
Summary: 5 Stars

This year marks the 70th anniversary of perhaps humankind's greatest folly. The time to review the advent to this war and the holocaust it hid for so long is overdue. The world should now again be made aware of this immense disaster by the international screening on television of both Herman Wouk's monumental works, "Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance".

Too many today do not know what acually happened.

Movie Review: Gathering Storm
Summary: 5 Stars

Herman Wouk's The Winds Of War is a true television history classic. Unified through love stories and military development, the strong cast of Robert Mitchum, Jan-Michael Vincent and especially the astonishingly beautiful and mysterious Natalie played by Ali McGraw are well worth wading into and approach an understanding of World War II from a resonant and singularly American center point of view.

Movie Review: historical fiction
Summary: 5 Stars

Winds of War is based on Herman Wouk's novel with the same name. It covers the time leading up to the beginning of WWII. It seems to be historically accurate and includes facts about Germany and Hitler that aren't readily known. The actors fit their parts, especially Polly Bergen and Robert Mitchum. We have thoroughly enjoyed this mini series and will watch it again and again.

Movie Review: Still great 20 years later
Summary: 5 Stars

I had watched this series 20 years ago on VHS and enjoyed it tremendously. I bought the DVD recently and have watched the first few episodes. Excellent quality. Robert Mitchum in a great role as Pug. It does a good job in showing the anxiety in Europe in the buildup to war, then the beginning of war itself as Germany invades Poland. I look forward to watching the rest.
