Movie Reviews of The War WagonMovie Review: Filled action western! Summary: 4 Stars
John Wayne is an ex-con who is bent on revenge for being framed and robbed of his gold yielding land. Eventually he will team with up with the two faced mercenary Kirk Douglas to steal the gold shipment being transported in a special armored stage better known as the War Wagon.
Plenty of fine irony, laughs and action; although for many Wayne's fans it's far from being the most reminded but as easy entertainment, gets the goal.
Movie Review: Last Western Film for Dimitri Tiomkin Summary: 4 Stars
For film music lovers, this film is important. It was the last western and the last Wayne film with music by Dimitri Tiomkin. Tiomkin later settled in England and composed for two other films before his death.
The music for this film is the quintessential Tiomkin complete with a song in the main title. This was typical going back to "High Noon".
Movie Review: Good Flick but.... Summary: 4 Stars
While I did enjoy The War Wagon on DVD, I would have to say I did enjoy other John Wayne movies on DVD more, The Searchers and The Cowboys both 5 stars in my mind. I would have given The War Wagon 3 stars except that Kirk Douglas is in it which would have been 3 1/2 stars, so I gave it an extra 1/2 star for the hell of it.
Movie Review: ONE OF JOHN WAYNE'S BEST Summary: 4 Stars
I already had this on tape but wanted to replace it with
a DVD. I think this is one of John Wayne's better films,
but then I am a John Wayne fan and I enjoy "old movies".
I enjoy watching John Wayne and Kirk Douglas together,
they make a good team.
Movie Review: Classic Summary: 4 Stars
The War Wagon was a hit when it was first released and is still a great film today. John Wayne and Kirk Douglas have just enough tension to really wonder if they will end up shooting each other or doing the hold up. Excellent addition to any family home film library.
