Movie Reviews of The Tuskegee AirmenMovie Review: Excellent film Summary: 5 Stars
This film depicts a mostly forgotten part of American history. Following the cadets from wannabe Army-Air Corps pilots through training (and some failures) through to their unmatched conduct in WW II is must viewing for all Americans. The racism is a lesson for all, both in the stupidity of its existence (Negroes aren't smart enough or talented enough to fly complex airplanes) to what can be productively accomplished when it is not used as an excuse for quitting. The famous "Red Tails" never lost a B-17 to enemy fighters and they were not a welcome sight to Luftwaffe pilots. More persistent than their white counterparts, the B-17 crews came to ask for their unit specifically to fly escort.
The film captures all of this. Andre Braugher is outstanding as Benjamin O. Davis. Courtney B. Vance is excellent as the liaison Lt. Glenn. Laurence Fishburne's composite character (including that of of the person Charles Alfred Anderson) is superb.
Worth buying and watching repeatedly
Movie Review: Touching the Sky Summary: 5 Stars
This movie "The Tuskegee Airmen" as presented by Home Box Office is an outstanding work of craft, art, and talent depicting the beginnings and lives of brave and courageous men from Alabama who defended and protected our country during the height of WW II. They were separated from their families, emotionally separated from the country which they protected, and physically separated from other African American brothers but yet they persevered with due diligence to continue forward through flight training performing at the highest quality level and certified as professionally trained fighters and support staff. In spite of the racism and the lack of repect they received on an ongoing basis at that time, none of these superficial barriers stood in the way of accomplishing their specified goals. I salute you for without your determination and sacrifice, the USA and its citizens would not enjoy the democratic entitlements it enjoys today.
Movie Review: The Struggle At Tuskegee Summary: 5 Stars
As a history buff and a white person who despises the acts of any who consider themselves to be superior to any other race, I enjoyed seeing that these black men continued to prove their worth in the face of the pointless pressure applied by white officers who supposed themselves to be better. I understand from availing myself to other sources that the information provided by this movie are factual, but perhaps understated. I am proud of these brave men and I am sorry they never really received all that was due them as heroes. The foibles that these men exhibited only showed that they are quite human, and certainly no white person could deny similar traits. The story moves quite well in every aspect. The use of authentic vehicles was well done and crashes, et cetera, were done without destroying any vintage aircraft. This is a story that must be told, and has been told in this movie to good effect.
Movie Review: WONDERFUL! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a huge mark for History movies, so it was quite a shock that I'd never heard of this movie before seeing it on cable TV for the first time. Now I'm bordering on obsessed. It's a good thing I can watch it anytime I want.
The real story of colored men and their contributions to World War 2. Their triumphs, tragedies and all the obstacles they overcame to contribute to America's victory in the Great War. It's clear to anyone who studies history that the valiant contribution of these brave men could have literally spelled the difference between victory and defeat. Their bravery in the face of adversity ON THEIR OWN HOME SOIL hardened them... battle-readied them... in a way that no white flyer could say he was hardened.
Men boarded those planes to fly off to battle... heroes landed the planes, returning from the mission.
Movie Review: Those Were The Days Summary: 5 Stars
This DVD highlights the racist attitude during 40's 50's 60's but more so during the 2nd world war years, the negro was classed as a 2nd rate citizen in its own country, these brave men had to fight a war on two fronts, I give this movie top billing for showing the true sequences of events as it happened, the USA airforce should be mighty proud of what these men did, and those lives they saved, my father served in the NZ air force during the 2nd world war and was stationed in many of the Islands in the south pacfic where heavy fighting took place in the air against the japanese, he often mentioned to me about the negro pilots and how brave they were, this film does justice in showing that !
