Movie Reviews of The Tudors - The Complete First SeasonMovie Review: Faboulous! Summary: 4 StarsThis is a Historical Novel/Mini-Series, never meant to be a factually accurate. It's rich in costume detail, locations, stunning photography, makeup and many period antiques, but they took liberties with the chronology, dialog, cheezy Computer Graphics and a few facts!
Who cares. It reaches out and grabs your attention - it's hard to walk away from the scenes and scenery. You can look up the facts on your computer, while you watch the shows again and again. It's fun to find the flows and oversights, and I was anything but offended with the lack of accuracy. The passion, the impressions, and the impact are accurate enough.
The real King Henry was a repulsive and disgusting, and the on-going plague was unimaginable to most of us (those who haven't been to a 3rd world country, that is).
I gotta get some of that Bling, too!
Movie Review: A very solid show but it is not television royalty like The Sopranos or The Wire Summary: 4 StarsThis past March I was faced with a minor dilemma as all of my favorite TV shows had come to an end. When The Wire ended its run, it finalized the trio of my favorite shows which included Six Feet Under and The Sopranos. My other favorite shows such as 24 are either past their prime (praying for a rebound season 7) or the consistently great show The Shield is ending its run this fall. That said, I'm looking for something new to watch and The Tudors was recommended to me by a very close friend. Despite my initial cynicism I had toward this show, I gradually became more and more interested and involved. In this reviewers opinion, The Tudors will never be as good as my beloved New Jersey mob family; however, it is still a compelling drama that contains the elements that made other personal favorites of mine great. Despite the historical inaccuracies this show portrays it does make the very intriguing life of Henry VIII even more appealing to a wider audience that may not appreciate history as much as myself or others may. The real lives of those in the Tudor dynasty are much more compelling then those in this television show. If one wants to have a more accurate depiction of Henry VIII you should be reading a book or watching a PBS documentary instead of this show. As a lifelong student of history this show sparked interest within me to research further into what I already knew about the lives of Henry VIII, his six wives and VERY IMPORTANT children, Cardinal Wolsey, etc. All of this said, The Tudors is a very solid drama and in the wake of great shows such as The Wire, Six Feet Under, the soon to be over The Shield, and The Sopranos this show is very decent on its own ground. Showtime is slowly overtaking HBO as the premier cable network due to the fact that they have very interesting and well-priced TV shows such as Dexter, Weeds, Californication, and of course this show. I am anxiously awaiting the release of season two of The Tudors on DVD as it is one of my new favorite shows.

Movie Review: Excellent Summary: 5 StarsI LOVED this first season - I watched it straight thru and can't wait for the second season to come out. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is so intense and totally believable as a king!
Movie Review: faulty DVD Summary: 1 StarsI ordered this DVD set because I am a huge fan of the show, but I don't subscribe to Showtime. Everything was great until I got to the final disc. This disc advertises that it contains the 10th episode as well as trailers for other Showtime productions. I never could get to the 10th episode. I tried viewing all the other offerings including registering for give aways and still could not open the 10th episode. To me, this disc set turned out to be nothing more than ads for Showtime. I returned the disc set for a full refund, which by the way, I STILL have not received from Amazon even after numerous reassurances that they have given me (it still hasn't shown up where they said they put it). If you want to watch The Tudors, my advice will be to sign up for Showtime, otherwise they're gonna rip you off!!
