Movie Reviews of The Trouble with AngelsMovie Review: Great Classic 60's Family Classic. Summary: 5 Stars
This is a fantastic movie for the whole family. Rosalind Russell shines as Mother Superior. And Hayley Mills shines as Mary Clancy. And June Harding shines as her friend. Mother Superior, a long with a group of other sisters. Run a school for girls back east. That has run smoothly. Until Hayley Mills, and June Harding arrive. They reak havoc from day one. But Mother Superior always forgives them, even though they do annoy her. This is also a very touching film, it teaches us morals. And lessons about life. It is a shame that they don't make movies like this anymore. Also Hayley Mills, has a lot of "scathingly brilliant ideas" in this classic movie. That will surely crack you up, If she isn't putting bubble bath soap flakes in the sugar bowl, she's plastering her cousin Marvel Ann's face, or she's sitting in the basement of the school smoking. This is a fantastic film. That I highly suggest to all.
Movie Review: A heartwarming movie for the entire family. Teen approved! Summary: 5 Stars
Rosalind Russell gives a stellar performance as the "Mother Superior" for an all girls school. Haley Mills also turns in a wonderful performance as a trouble making student, unlike her previous roles, ie. The Parent Trap and Pollyanna. This is a heartwarming, teen/family orientated movie. Haley Mills plays the character "Mary Clancy", a troubled teen, who is enrolled in the school, under protest, by her guardian/uncle.
She enlists the help of her best school chum, "Rachel", to help her with her "Scathingly Brilliant Ideas!" that cause trouble for the nuns and her fellow students. "Mary", ends up learning some lessons that will change her attitude as well as the rest of her life. You will laugh, cry and relate to this story in some way, no matter what your age, because don't we all have school stories we will never forget?
Movie Review: Classic Fun Summary: 5 Stars
Excellent, beautuiful, innocent time capsule of the sixties right before the whole hippy culture and Vietnam began to dominate the second half of that decade. This was the last of that innocent time that some of us remember from our childhoods, and apart from the adorable story and acting all around it captures that essence wonderfully.
A great family film, fun, cute for kids but with a message, and ... why has not one review mentioned a touching surprise: the unbilled cameo by the late and great and underrated Jim Hutton. I just watched this for the first time in years, and I don't think I ever noticed that he was in it, maybe I was too young to take note when I first saw this as a child, but he was a gem.
Great movie. If you like this, check out "The World of Henry Orient".
Movie Review: A lot of nunsense! LOL Summary: 5 Stars
I use the word nunsense as Miss Russell plays the Reverend Mother, a strong person with good sense in an arena of fun, charm, mischief and, laughter! Hayley Mills plays the defiant Mary Clancy attending Catholic school named St Francis. It is one "scathingly brilliant idea" after another. Enough to try the patience of GOD himself with a healthy dash of merriment that the whole family will enjoy! I remember seeing this movie when it was first released in 1966. It is just as much fun today as it was back then. Mary Wickes (whom you may remember as Lucy Ricardos ballet teacher in an I Love Lucy episode) plays a supporting role that adds a dash of enhanced flavor to the shenanigans. A sheer delight for all.
Movie Review: Trouble With Angels Summary: 5 Stars
Nostalgic, touching and hilarious all in one DVD! The Trouble With Angels takes us back to a more innocent time, when "trouble" at school meant something as "serious" as skipping class!
Rosalind Russell, as always, gives a strong, firm, yet likable performance as Mother Superior. She both rules her students with an iron hand, yet also deeply cares for each and every one of them. Haley Mills is spunky, defiant and coming of age in her role as Mary Clancy.
The final scene, as the girls say their "good-byes" and go on to their adult lives, is touching.
A good "Friday night/girls night" movie!
