Movie Reviews of The Trip

Movie Review: Spreading Around the Net
Summary: 5 Stars

I subscribe to a couple gay online communities and it seems like this movie has found a second wind. The new interest in this film is warrented in my opinion. The love story itself is cliche but with two gay characters it gives it a real twist. Are we not tired of being portrayed as party loving alchoholics who can't ever commit. Even to ourselves? It's about time and it sounds like there is real energy in the gay community for new representations. This time not an off-shoot of "do-me feminism" but about real people with real strengths and foilbles who live the lives of you and me. How many of us really look like or really want to be like the guys in most of those movies? This movie and a few others I will write reviews are really a call to arms. All we need now are real gay role models in real life and maybe we'll start getting more than booze, unfulfilling sex, luckless relationships and spit in our faces. Brava.

Movie Review: read the one-star reviews first!
Summary: 5 Stars

the only reason i rate this film five stars is so all you review readers will read my warning to click on the ONE STAR reviews FIRST and see for yourself how truly awful this film must be. i was truly going to add this film to my cart until i read the reviews from those who DESPISED this film. all those gushing great reviews were about to convince me to buy this. of course, the five-star reviews are put first to get you to buy it. i will never buy this film now after reading those horrible reviews for what truly must be a horrible film. i know from the sincerity of the reviews that the film must be total trite trash and shame on all those who made unsuspecting people wanting to like this film waste our money and buy it because of your rave reviews. excuse me, but has anyone ever seen URBANIA?! and special thanks to the five-starrer who told the whole plot in his review so we all know that one of the guys dies at the end.

Movie Review: Happy and Sad Like Life
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a successful guy who has most of everything I could ever want. The problem is that I am 47 and my one true love and I had a relationship that was as joyous and sad as the one Swain depicts in this movie. It hit very close to home. Unlike the characters in this movie we never seized the opportunity to reconnect. I heard from a friend we had in common who reminds me a lot of the Alexis Arquette character actually that he passed away of testicular cancer a couple of years ago. The sad thing is that he wanted to let me know but I was involved at the time with a guy who is very much like Peter in being power hungry and manipulative. If this movie had come out sooner I might have seen myself in it and seen the light. Although this movie upset me it also made me happy because I remember the good times we had. This is a must see especially if you are of the AIDS generation like we were.

Movie Review: Hilarious and Tragic - A True Gem Of A Film!
Summary: 5 Stars

There is nothing like accidentally discovering a film and falling in love with it. "The Trip" is a typical coming of age story of two young men (one gay - one on the edge) that follows their journey over two decades. Starting in the early 1970's, every scene is true to the period and the dialogue is clever and witty without ever being pretentious or contrived. The acting is excellent and the main characters are all likable - even when they screw up. Director Miles Swain keeps the story tight with constant flashes of news clips as footnotes to the development of the two buddies relationship. The latter half in the 1980's is also dead-on in its' portrayal of gay life and we see the two main characters grow with each passing world event. At times hilariously funny and others, painfully heartbreaking, "The Trip" is a true balance of hilarity and tragedy that will move anyone.

Movie Review: The Best film i have ever seen!
Summary: 5 Stars

Words can't describe how much i'm in love with this movie. I watched it back in the December of 2004 when my English teacher was showing to the class. Some of the classmates hesistated for a while but when we started watching it, it was hilarious and we were laughing our ass out. When the movie was finished, we were so glad that our teacher showed us the movie. She said that was her favorite movie of all time, and now it's MY favorite movie of all time. After watching it in class, i ordered it online and now i have my own copy, i don't regret a bit, i think this movie is excellent! I love Larry Sullivan! He's such a great actor! Steve is too! Please, do not hesitate to watch this great film, even my straight friends LOVED it! It is, no doubt in my mind, a CLASSIC film of this century. Basically, everyone should buy a copy! Thanks for listening, hope my enthusiasm helped.
