Movie Reviews of The Thrill of it All!Movie Review: A MUST HAVE CLASSIC Summary: 5 Stars
If anyone wants a look at the chic 60s, you need not look for anything but this.
Doris Day is at her best as the "typical housewife" with her charming husband played by James Garner. The Madison Avenue ad agency angle is played for laughs, and (as always) Doris is perky and stylish.
The story stil holds up, some 45 years later. I hope people re-discover Doris Day, and the sensational pictures she made. They are really good!
From a style perspective, the early 60's are a happy time -bold colors, and here and there space-age design. Though it may be hard to take your eyes off the cast, take a look at the set's and costumes.
If there is retro-chic, this is one of the good examples. ALL of Miss Day's work in the 60's had a strong sense of style.
"Move Over Darling", "The Glass Bottom Boat" and the vastly under- appreciated "Caprice" offer style concepts that still click today.
If you want a night or weekend of pure joy, simply get this and/or some of the other movies. You will love 'em!
Movie Review: Doris and James are amazing together I love this movie Summary: 5 Stars
I really love doris day and I own almost all of her movies. I love the chemistry
between her and James Garner. It hard to find an actress who has such a good
connection with more than one actor but doris day is truly a jewel. This is a
movie that the whole family can watch together. You never know whats going to
happen next. I love the scene with the car in the pool filled with soap. You
can't say enough good things about this movie. I could watch this movie all the
time. There will never be another actress as good as doris day. You can't go wrong
buying this movie. I will be starting my James Garner collection next. I can't wait
add his movies to my library.
Movie Review: A great value, comedy DVD with original trailer! Summary: 5 Stars
I have to give this DVD 5/5 - for the fact it's amazingly great value for money. The picture quality was superb and even though it says it's widescreen the picture is almost FULL screen size so the images were as large as life. As a bonus you also get to see the trailer which was cute.Anyhow, for those who don't know James Garner plays an obstetrician and Doris Day is the ultimate "stay-at-home Mom", until that is she becomes the face of "Happy" soap, much to the dislike of her husband ! This fast paced, screwball comedy follows the couple's marital mayhem including that unforgettable scene with that car in that pool of bubbles. Simply Review: The Thrill of it All Summary: 5 Stars
Beverly Boyer a stay at home mom, and perfectly happy doing so for her obstetrician husband Gerald. During a dinner party thrown by a patient of her husband, Beverly relates a story of how much her daughter loves Happy Soap not knowing her hosts are Happy Soap. When she is asked to be the spokesperson for Happy Soap, it throws the family in a tailspin. Beverly never has any free time, and Gerald is not happy playing second fiddle to his wife. Gerald decides to teach his pretty wife a lesson.
This is a great old classic. Doris Day and James Garner are wonderful together with great chemistry.
Movie Review: one of our favorites Summary: 5 Stars
This is an all time classic. Clean, but oh so funny with cameos by Carl Reiner, who wrote the script along with the great Larry Gelbart (MASH, Funny thing happened on the way to the Forum).
Your whole family can watch this over and over again!
I grew up watching it - before I knew how great Doris Day is as an actress. I can't decide if I like her better with James Garner or Rock Hudson, (or Cary Grant) but Pillow Talk is a close second.
I wish they would come out with a DVD of Fluffy, which starred Tony Randall and Shirley Jones. Anyone remember that?
