Movie Reviews of The Thorn Birds

Movie Review: One Outstanding Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

I remember back in the day when this book came out. We had to read it in college. It was huge and I thought OH NO... Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. I fell in love with the story, characters, landscape etc.

Once the Mini Series aired, I was skeptical. I was WRONG... they made this movie EXACTLY the way it should have been and stayed true to the perfect book by Colleen McCullough.

This movie will stand the test of times and has become an instant classic.

No matter what age... (15 and up years old) you won't help but fall in love with the characters and this epic Love story.

Anyone who is a true romantic will enjoy this movie Over and Over again.

Hands down a perfect 100% - 5 star Movie (mini series) DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!

Movie Review: A modern Classic...
Summary: 5 Stars

The Thorn Birds is nothing less than a modern classic! Its dramatic film at its best. Richard Chamberlain's portrayal of the conflicted Father Ralph is both heart warming and heart wrenching. His struggle and transformation is so reaistic. Rachel Ward's performance as the ever evolving Meggie Cleary is convincingly beautiful and tragic.

The film takes you from Australia, to Rome, to England and back again.

The Thorn Birds is a famously long production (originally a mini-series) -you have to be ready to take your time and enjoy the unfolding story. However, it is well worth the time! You'll never regret stepping into the world of these characters... and learning about what motivates them and perhaps what really motivates us all.

Movie Review: One of the all time greatest mini-series
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm 31 and watched "The Thorn Birds" with my mother when it first aired in 1983. Since then, I would watch bits-and-pieces whenever I found it on cable. In fact it recently aired on the WE network and I watched practially the entire thing. What a surprise when I found out "The Thorn Birds" was FINALLY relased on DVD. I already got my copy and plan to watch it yet again. There are very few movies that I will watch again and again, but I never seem to tire of "The Thorn Birds."

I really wish that the TV networks would once again produce mini-series such as this. Mini-series were a staple of the late-1970's and 1980's. To me, this was the golden age of television.

Movie Review: Best Ever Mini series!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was a young teen when this mini series came out. I remember watching it each night it was on Tv with my Mom. So, to me, just for that memory alone, this series is extra special to me. I saw the mini series before I read the book. After the mini series, I read the book and the series stayed true to life to the book. It captures beautifully the love between Meggie and Father Ralph. The actors played their parts perfectly. I've seen this a ton of times here and there over the years and it still is beautiful to watch. If you loved the book, you will love this mini series. Too bad they no longer make great, epic mini series like this anymore.

Movie Review: Travel back in time....
Summary: 5 Stars

Watching this DVD, with its incredible vistas, sumptuous love story and haunting music, takes me back to 1983 like it was just yesterday. Being a teenager at the time, this mini-series made quite an impression on me. And who didn't have a crush on Richard Chamberlain back in the 80's --- admit it, you did. This mini-series sweeps you off your feet and wraps you up in a fantastic story of forbidden love. Yes, the mini-series leans more heavily on the Ralph/Meggie moments than the book, but it is still a fantastic adaptation. And Ralph & Meggie are rated as the NUMBER ONE KISS in TV History by TV Guide, so that should tell you something!
