Movie Reviews of The Thorn BirdsMovie Review: GET IT OVER AND DONE WITH DICK! Summary: 5 Stars
Aaah, Rachel Ward! What was that imbecile of a priest thinking? When I first watched this mini-series, I kept shouting at Ralph for his inexplicable reluctance to give in to his passion for Meggie. But I was 16 when I first watched it, and consumed bu hormones. Now I realise what crushung torment is, and not what I thought was idoicy! The acting is superb, especially from Barbra Stynwyck. Her role as Mary Carson, whose bitter hatred causes diastrous consequences for Ralph and Meggie, is a testament to her greatness as an actress. Jean Simmons in her role as Meggie's mother Fee is also to be strongly applauded, as too the actor playing her illegtimate child Frank. I would also recommend buying the soundtrack of "The Thorn Birds". "Meggie's Theme" will haunt you, much as Meggie herself haunted Ralph, even from across the globe, amidst the splendours of the Vatican City.

I am 31 and from Bloomington,Indiana...I remember seeing this for the first time, I was only 11. I am telling you, watch the first 15 minutes and you'll be hooked. Richard Chamberlain and Rachal Ward, what a chemistary they have. Even Ralph being so devoted to the church, he cannot hide his feelings for Meggie. The entire story is great. Meggie tries to cover her true feelings by getting married to a man she doesn't love. Time after time Father Ralph comes to her rescue, once again showing their love can't be forgotten. After years of the secret love they have for one another they can no longer hide what is meant to be...The love they feel for each other makes you wonder, can there really be a love and a connection this stong between two people. I hope to be so lucky. I have waited years for this to come out on video/DVD. CP
Movie Review: The Thorn Birds......misunderstood Summary: 5 Stars
The Thorn Birds mini-series is an honest-to-goodness adaptation by Carmen Culver of a classic novel by Colleen McCullough. It is sad to note that people who have read the book tend to compare it with the movie. I myself have read the book, and I can say that Ms Culver couldn't have done it better. The thing is, comparing a classic novel to an adaptation, no matter how brilliant it was done, just doesn't add up - a novelist versus a screenwriter is a no contest. That is the reason why it could not garner the 5-star overall rating it so rightfully deserves.
The Thorn Birds is one of the best things that happened to television in the 80's. It is a timeless classic that was as heartwarming then as it is now, 23 years later.
This is one of the best, if not the best, love story of all time.
Movie Review: The Thorn Birds Summary: 5 Stars
This is/was a wonderful love story of all time. I like all the characters in the movie. Richard Chamberlin is awesome as is Rachel Ward. So great you wonder if they could do it again. Barbara Stanwyck too fisty as ever in her role of Mary, unforbidden love of her personal priest, yet willing havoc on all of those in her path, only to die knowing, that his heart belonged to Maggie. I find this to be one of my favorite movies of all times and only if the film industry would make more such movies as this one think of the joy of viewing another great love-story. To me this movie hit the home of religion and said to the priest world that it is okay to know the love a lady for he too should not be alone, with out companionship of the greatest of love is love itself.
