Movie Reviews of The Thirteenth Floor

Movie Review: The Thirteenth Floor
Summary: 5 Stars

Despite all the bad reviews I have read for this film, I LOVED IT! I have watched it numerous times and I still continue to watch it. If you are a sci-fi buff, you will like this. I saw this in the theater and, unfortunately, it was only there for about 2 weeks (or less). I think I recognized the twist before it happened, but this movie definitely keeps you in anticipation. I think The Thirteenth Floor would have definitely gotten more of the spotlight had it not been released at approximately the same time as Matrix, but if you've seen the Matrix, you'll most likely enjoy a great flick like Thirteenth Floor.

Movie Review: One of my all time favorites
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is one of my all time favorites. While not widely known, it is fresh, ingenious, well executed and very well cast, particularly Gretchen Moll, whose beauty reminds you of Grace Kelly. There are ideological similarities with the martix, but where that film opted for FX and fluff, this movie opts for substance. I was particularly impressed with the feel of the roaring twenties they created. This movie has longevity and stamina in the same way as "Highlander". You will find yourself rewatching and turning friends on to it as well. A true obscure gem.

Movie Review: Thirteenth Floor vs Matrix
Summary: 5 Stars

Both movies are about virtual reality, and how can you tell the difference? For my money, The Thirteenth Floor does a better job of handling the subject. Matrix had a bigger budget, better special effects, bigger "star". But Thirteenth Floor had the better plot and character development. (How much character development can you do with Keanu Reeves anyhow?) It is, of course, a matter of personal preference. So see them both and decide for yourself.

I'd say the kids prefer Matrix, the adults Thirteenth Floor.

Movie Review: A real mind bender!
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie had a unique slant on an unusual type of time travel (more like 'mind travel'), though it really goes far deeper than just a 'man with a glorious machine' concept. It's hard to get your gray matter around this one, but the submersion into the intense Science Fiction element prompted me to watch it several times. A great techno-thriller with a twilight zone twist. If you liked the mind manipulation of 'Matrix', I believe you'll be intrigued from start to finish with this one.

Movie Review: This dvd is not widescreen!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This dvd is not double sided! Graphics (a picture of the cover art) covers one full side of the disc. The other side contains the movie, which is a full screen (1.33:1 ratio) only presentation. Why some people keep insisting they're recieving double sided discs is beyond me. Perhaps they want people to make the same mistake they did. My disc was full screen and according to the IMDB website no widescreen version exists. (except on blueray)
As far as the movie itself goes it's a great film which deserves 5 stars.
