Movie Reviews of The Thing (Collector's Edition)

Movie Review: the thing
Summary: 5 Stars

My 16 year old grandaugher wanted a scary movie,so I ordered this one.

Movie Review: YOU MUST BE (BLEEP) KIDDING!!
Summary: 2 Stars

That was actually my favorite line in the movie - when the head grows legs and starts crawling past the men who are looking to kill it. When the dogs go crazy in their pen because they recognize one of their own as an alien and not a dog, that was pretty good too. But you really can't compare Howard Hawk's The Thing with John Carpenter's because they are truly two different movies. Hawks' movie scares you with the story, the atmosphere and the score. Carpenter's scares you with the monsters (pretty good) and gore (eh).

The crew in Carpenter's movie is comprised of an embittered, alcoholic leader, an inconsiderate cook, a stoner, a beligerant bruiser and basically an assortment of the most unlikeable men who don't even like each other - not like the cast from the original The Thing of 1951, a sci-fi creature masterpiece that cannot be touched, especially by this version. The crew in Howard Hawk's version are people you could look up to; very likeable characters with women crew members, all who respect each other and are always joking and laughing (except when the monster comes around!) with an amusing newspaper man, and a captain who is strong but caring - not a heartless military freak you see today.

Anyway, I have both these movies and rarely watch this Carpenter version. Too much of a moody downer....

Movie Review: Great flick, great story, and a good time in the dark!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

John Carpenter does a wonderful job of retelling the short story "who goes there" this movie plays completely on human paranoia and does not stop once the actions starts (which is in the 1st 15 min)...I can't get enough of it I've watched so many times that I've had to buy the DVD 3 times due to wear on the disc...watch it in the dark with close frieds, maybe they are the thing...lol!!!

Movie Review: Best film ever made.
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this film when I was about twelve years old and after watching it again and again and again I have to still say it is the best film ever made point blank! It still holds up to everything in its genre that is out there. It is crazy ironic that John Carpenter's The Thing almost ruined his career and is and always will be his best work. If you don't have it - buy it!!! Now!!!!

Movie Review: best of eighties horros is the thing
Summary: 5 Stars

nothing like it. it's tougher than romero. must be the toughest horror movie ever. only dawn can stand the test of time.
