Movie Reviews of The Thing - Collector's Edition

Movie Review: "The Thing" still scares!
Summary: 4 Stars

The DVD came in great condition, right on time and the movie is still remarkable for the genuine frights, grisly special effects, and the psychological drama of a few 'regular guys" being isolated and terrorized in the middle of an unforgiving artic wasteland! Great stuff ;)

Movie Review: maybe the greatest monster movie ever made...
Summary: 5 Stars

i have to start off with the effects.. it is completely amazing that they could pull off such over the top gore on film in 1982. ive seen a lot of horror ranging from the early sixties to today, and i gotta say, this may have been at the plateau of gore effects when it came out, and it holds up really well today.

as big of a landmark as Halloween was, this is the highlight of John Carpenters career. i saw this for the first time recently, and im just blown away. this movie is fantastic.

great acting all around with Kurt Russel(Big Trouble in Little China) as the lead. paranoia sets in fast in this secluded research facility as the body count rises and the people learn the true nature and abilities of their attackers.

i dont want to spoil anything, but basically these creatures have been frozen for 100,000 years. their origins are unknown outside the fact that they are not of this world. they have a sort of shape-shifting ability to imitate any living creatures they see. as you can imagine, trust is lacking between the survivors at this point.

the effects are amazing. the acting is totally solid all around. very well written plot builds up tension and questions until the explosive conclusion. all horror fans need to have this in their collection.

Movie Review: OK
Summary: 3 Stars

OK movie, I thought the HD side of this movie was a bit ordinary, not much better than DVD. I wouldn't spend the extra to buy this again in HD, DVD is good enough.
Story OK, entertainment value OK.

Movie Review: The Thing on HD!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a terrific movie with an absolutely terrific transfer. The Thing is a horror / sci-fi remake(this version was released in 1982) and as most reviewers have described it looks fantastic. Obviously if you compare it to a more modern film with digital filming and post production you will see a difference but I decided to give this film 5 stars due to the top-notch treatment that the transfer has undergone. I highly recommend this movie based on the content, special effects(1982), and the pristine picture/sound.

Movie Review: Thumbs Up on "The Thing, Collector's Edition"
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great DVD, and the bonus commentary by John Carpenter and Kurt Russell is very fun and informative. Thumbs up on "The Thing, Collector's Edition"!
