Movie Reviews of The Terminal (Widescreen Edition)

Movie Review: Take time to visit "The Terminal"
Summary: 4 Stars

"The Terminal" is good example of a story that shouldn't work as well as it does. Victor (Tom Hanks) is an eastern European man who is stuck in a legal crack, neither able to enter the US or return home. Forced to stay in the international lounge of JFK airport, he seeks money, food, friends and maybe even romance. Of course, this being a movie, he does, but that's not what make it so interesting.
One thing that makes this such a fascinating movie is the subtle, but engrossing, performances by the whole cast. Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones disappear into their roles quite well. The supporting cast is delightful, especially Diego Luna as the love-sick food worker.
While the trailers and commercials give the impression that this is a slapstick, silly comedy, which it could have easily turned into, it's really a different kind of love story. When Ameila (Zeta-Jones), a flight attendent having an affair with a married man, and Viktor keep bumping into each other, a strange sort of attachment grows between them. They discuss Napoleon a lot, which sets up a sweet little scene where Viktor creates a mosaic fountain for Amelia. But their romance progresses in a way not expected, and we are a little surprised by the ending.
All in all, the film does require us to ingnore some minor plot holes, and a few subplots don't seem fully fleshed out, but it's nice to have an intelligent comedy to see this summer.
